#1 Boosting Learner Engagement

in Formative Work

  • School wide rewards and recognition (ie movie theater, comedy sports, school dance during the day, bowling, etc).
  • Direct Instruction of Habits of Mind (during ACP or Advisory), including parents.
  • Give formative work some weight in the grading process.
  • Formative work completion is a requirement for assessment.

#2 Teaching students how to be leaders/student leadership (VOICE) to impact school culture

  • Go through this process with student leaders
  • Emphasis on leadership training
  • Identify leaders in our building
  • Bring students to the table when we make decisions (PBIS, etc.)

#9 Mentoring

Mentor Groups: Staff to student, student to student (No more than 10 mentees per mentor) Groups have some flexibility based on needs of group.

Group Activities: Groups members support each other’s individual goals and make group goals. Participate in character building activities. Group members meet together outside of the school day to build relationships. Possible group communication tool (texting) to continue support outside of school.

Schedule: Whole group meeting once a week with mentor and/or special speaker. Mentees meet once a week one on one with mentor during Advisory. Whole mentoring day or half day the entire school participates in together (half day or early release schedule.

Training for mentors: Observe other school’s programs, master class on mentoring

#13: Teacher Time

Define: CPT, PD days, and Team meeting times should be more personalized to meet our teacher needs.

Plan: Allow teachers to create our own flexible pathway, with a schedule for the year presented at the beginning of the year.

Planning Time: Should remain sacred as each personal teacher's’ time.

CPT Time: No more structured CPT time. This time needs to be driven by staff.

#11: Habits of Mind & Graduation

Define: How do we integrate Habits of Mind to get student’s knowledge and ability to set goals and reflect meta-cognitively.

Ideate: FOUNDATION: Need teacher resources, Integration AND THEN: Kid owner and involve, publicity, celebration

Prototype: Establish a HoM resource framework to provide to MS staff. LINK TO NOTES

#8 ACP/ Advisory

Define: How can we better use the 30 minutes that are set aside for ACP/ Advisory every week.

Ideas: Intentional, continuous time for ACP in blocks (units) vs. once per week

#15 Inclusion of ID Students

  • Changing the culture of the school to include students of all abilities.
  • Staff training.
  • Better connections between co-teachers/paras all staff.
  • Get students involved in authentic, meaningful classroom jobs.
  • Best buddy/classroom mentorship model in classrooms
  • School store/popcorn day/functional skills
  • Gen Ed teachers teach in Self-Contained Room to bridge gap of environment
  • Use small groups to meet needs of all students
