Extrapolation of Nuclear Observables in the Limit�With NP NUCLEI partnership

Scientific Achievement

We have developed a novel model to extrapolate nuclear observables from the no core shell model (NCSM) and capture their asymptotic behavior without significant data.

Significance and Impact

NCSM enables understanding of low-energy nuclear properties arising from strongly interacting nucleons through observables estimated in a basis space that is truncated by NMax.
Since, computational requirement for extrapolation grows with NMax, approximate extrapolation is more attractive but hard to attain because a lot of data is not available.

TALKING POINTS:

Develop a Neural ODE model such that a nuclear observables’ propagation with respect to Nmax (the truncation on the basis space) can be modelled in its infinite dimensional limit.
The integration of the model with respect to Nmax provides the extrapolation.
Such extrapolation has the potential to predict observable when no theoretical model exists and getting data is hard.
The uncertainty is presently large for low Nmax
