Science

We use the Battle Creek Science Curriculum in 6th grade. Each student will receive and be responsible for a science journal. Your child will receive a new workbook for each unit that we learn. We will be using the journals daily in class (pencil only in journals). If your child misses a class activity, it is very important that he/she gets with another student to get caught up on what was learned. It will be very difficult to redo these class activities and experiments in the home setting. For this reason, it is important that your child be absent as little as possible during science. If your child is absent, they are responsible for obtaining any missing work. Multiple missing assignments may result in a ZAP school. All lesson plans will be posted daily on Schoology.

Science Grades (See BJHS Grading Policy Online)

80% --- Interim Assessment (Quizzes, Tests, Major Projects)

20% --- Formative Assessment (daily work, homework, science journals)

Gradebook

  • BJHS School-Wide Gradebook Info:

If a grade is BLANK, then the teacher has yet to enter the assignment.

If a grade has been flagged Incomplete, then the grade is incomplete because it was not finished or needs some corrections by the student.

If the grade has been flagged Exempt, then the grade is exempted and doesn’t count for or against the student. For example, a student missed a science lab done in class and the teacher does not require the student to make that lab up.

If a grade has been flagged Missing, then the student has not turned in the assignment and receives zero points. For example, a student doesn’t turn in an assignment, so it is marked Missing and they receive zero points.

*Be sure to check the comments next to the assignment for additional information noted by the teacher.

6th Grade

Quarters will be weighted at 48%, Exams will be weighted at 2%.

Semester Grade (100%) = Quarter 1 (48%) + Exam 1 (2%) + Quarter 2 (48%) + Exam 2 (2%)

Retakes

  • Students are to ask instructor if retakes are available for Interim Assessments. Retakes are a privilege, not a right. If a student would like to take advantage of a retake, they are to do so outside the normal school day; such as 8th hour or Friday ZAP.
  • Teachers are to have students fill out the Request To Retest form.
  • Students can not retake quarter exams.
  • Not all Interim Assessments are eligible for retakes.
