Basic Underlying Principles(as evidenced by research)

  • learners have different learning styles; therefore,
  • every individual should be able to learn and practice English their own way and at their own pace
  • learners can learn better and faster on their own when they are provided with appropriate resources
  • learners should be able to select the amount and type of resources that meet their needs, interests and learning styles
  • learners should develop autonomy to ensure efficient mobile and life-long learning
  • language learning is basically a matter of practice. The more contact with the target language, the more consolidated learning is
  • language is learnt best when it is presented through meaningful, real-life-like contexts and interactive tasks

More Useful Tips for Platform Users

  • explore the platform content. Check the introductory descriptive paragraphs for each category
  • practice as much as you can. Consult the ‘daily picks’ and ‘multi-blog magazine’ regularly. It’ll take you just a few minutes
  • vary learning media, language skills and tools (listen to music, read stories, speak and communicate with other learners, write personal journals, watch movies, play language games or use IT and AI tools) in order to consolidate your learning
  • remember you don’t have to understand every single word or item, or complete all the tasks. Try to get just the general idea.
  • adopt the ‘natural approach’ for learning. Remember how you learnt your mother tongue. Just listen, think, watch and practice. Production will come naturally
  • to track your progress, you should identify your level first. Go to the placement quizzes, under the “Tests” category. After a few weeks or months of practice on Learn English Platform, take the placement test again to check how much progress you have made
  • teachers are encouraged to familiarize their students with the basic components of the platform. After some time, they will be amazed by the subsequent improvement in their students’ productions and motivation

Future Perspectives

  • design separate platforms for young learners, university students, teachers and other categories of learners/users
  • provide space on LEP social media pages for users to share their feedback and experiences
  • improve the first version of the platform based on piloting and users’ feedback
  • adopt a three-phase approach (select, pilot, and improve) for selecting more up-to-date, appropriate and high-quality resources through well-defined criteria and checklists
  • provide more resources and content on LEP Youtube and Tiktok channels, including tips, lessons and guides
  • apply and adapt the platform concept and design for other languages, school subjects, professions or other purposes in consultation with specialists in each field
