A brief summary of who we are and what we wanted to do
Who are we?
We’re a team comprised of two young people with a background in social sciences who work on user-oriented and data-driven solutions for the public and private sectors. Therefore, we focused on visualizing in an accessible, interactive and enticing way the information that was presented to us through various datasets in order to communicate complex information to the public
Which subject did we choose and why?
From all the datasets available to us, we chose those that we could use to show how does Mexico City’s public budget distribution could impact on access to housing. We chose to work with this subject as we know many people in our generation will struggle to own a house due to socioeconomic gaps, so visualizing how the government is acting upon that matter could provide both stakeholders and policy-makers with valuable insights
Goals
02
Which goals we setted up for our project?
Main objective
The main objective of our proposal is to present relevant information to the public in a way that’s as easy and inclusive as possible, both for the average person as for policy-makers and stakeholders. Thus, we seeked to visualize the information contained in Mexico City’s government open-access datasets in a simple, attractive and interactive way. We wanted to achieve this by communicating issues of public interest -such as the affordable housing debate- involving as many people as possible in the process. To do this, we developed an interactive web application that contains visualizations arranged in such a way that they transmit a clear line of thought, engaging the user in ‘data storytelling’.
Detailed objectives
Telling a story with data (data storytelling). Making the user engage with public information more easily
Enabling anyone with an internet connection to access data visualizations and information on public affairs
Creating an interactive platform on the web that stores valuable information from open-access datasets
Providing the user with a visually attractive way to know and understand data on public affairs

What did we look for?
What we used
We looked for a relation between the resources allocated to each municipality within Mexico City, the level of well-being of its population and the value of the land. We used the following datasets:
We decided to use a combination of spatial analysis and statistical inference to proceed with our project.
