Extracurricular Activities

  • All Grade 9 students are eligible to compete on any team.
  • Some sports will have a Grade 9 team if there is an enough interest and volunteers to support the team.
  • Check athletic website in the summer for tryout dates for sports that start in September (for example, football, soccer).
  • Many clubs and groups are available at lunchtime – something for everyone.
  • A club/group information fair will be held in September for students.

Schedules�

  • Each student has their own individual schedule. Students do not move from class to class as a group.

  • Students enrolled in Explore Music 9 and Band Instruments 9 will take this in place of Art/Tech Ed 9

Language Arts

  • Each student will be enrolled in a full year of language arts
  • Translates to 75 minutes of instruction each day
  • English program – English Language Arts 9
  • French program – Francais 9
  • Healthy Living 9/Mode de Vie Sain 9 is rolled into this time slot on your student’s schedule for the school year.

Mathematics

  • Each student is enrolled in a full year of mathematics
  • Translates to 75 minutes of instruction each day
  • English program – Mathematics 9
  • French program – Mathematiques 9

Science and Citizenship Education

  • All students will be enrolled in Citizenship Education 9 or Education Civique 9 IMM AND Science 9 or Sciences 9 IMM running opposite days over the full year.

  • For example, Citizenship 9 will run on Days A and C while Science 9 will run on Days B and D

Physical Education

  • Every Grade 9 student is enrolled in physical education every second day all year.
  • This course fits into your child’s schedule on alternating days with either Visual Arts 9, Technology Education 9 or Core French 9 throughout the entire school year.

Second Language

  • Each student will be enrolled in one semester of a second language arts program. This course is balanced off with Physical Education 9.
  • English program – Core French 9
  • French Program – English 9

Music Students

  • Music students complete their schedule with one semester of Music 9

(Band Instruments 9 & Explore Music 9)

  • This course is balanced off with Physical Education 9.
  • Students who want to continue their musical development should participate with the band program offered by Mrs. Burtt.

Non – Music Students

  • Non-music students take one quarter of Visual Art 9 and a second quarter of Technology Education 9.
  • This course is balanced off with Physical Education 9.

Supporting your Child

in High School

Please stay in touch with Lockview by:

  • Checking Power School
  • Attending curriculum night (Sept/Feb)
  • Attending Parent Teacher nights (Nov/Apr)
  • Attending evening parents’ sessions offered by Student Services.
  • Viewing Lockview website and teacher websites
  • Noting information from school messenger phone calls and e-mails from your child’s teachers.
  • When necessary, staying in touch with your child’s teachers and guidance counsellor via e-mail or phone.
  • Encouraging your child to get involved in sports, clubs and/or groups.

  • Power School is a very helpful tracking tool for both students and parents. Parents keep the SAME password and username used in grade 8 once at Lockview
  • Contact your junior high school to get set up now.
