This club focuses on arab designs all over the world such as islamic arts, mosaic, henna designs, carpet designs, calligraphy, etc… This year will be divided in different sections and we’ll be learning about the designs and learn how to actually create them!

This club is working on the fourth SDG, quality education. After we teach the students how to draw henna designs, we will be holding stands every once in a while for people to get their henna done as well as other activities. The money that is collected will be donated to countries in need of money in order to provide quality education to kids.

The Helping Hands Club

Club Objective:

The Helping Hands Club works closely with the Casa Hogar (an orphanage in Toluca, Mexico). We aim to improve the lives of the orphans there by doing what we can to expand their resources (through donations, care packages, etc). As teenagers living in Qatar, we understand we’re much more privileged than the orphans at Casa Hogar and with this in mind, we aim to extend a helping hand and do what we can to help support the orphans and possibly make Casa Hogar a home to more children. As the club has close connection to the orphanage, many service opportunities are available!

Our Purpose

Lebanon has been facing a severe and prolonged economic depression where inflation rates are rapidly increasing and the exchange rate continues to significantly lose its value. High prices are making it extremely difficult for Lebanese citizens to acquire basic necessities, such as sanitary products, and receive private health care. Furthermore, the country is encountering disastrous medicine shortages. Therefore, in this club, we plan to raise awareness by hosting monthly fundraisers and potentially collaborating with other organizations in Lebanon that are tackling the same situation. All proceeds collected will go towards the Lebanese Red Cross.

EFFECT MEETS EVERY MONDAY ON ZOOM FROM

4:00 - 4:30 PMd

WE MEET ONCE A MONTH ON ZOOM FROM

4:00 - 4:30 PM

OUR MISSION: TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO THE INTERNET FOR THE PEOPLE IN MANKOSI, A RURAL VILLAGE IN SOUTH AFRICA, IN ORDER TO STAY CONNECTED AND IMPROVE THEIR POSSIBILITY FOR A BRIGHT FUTURE

FOR ANY INQUIRIES PLEASE CONTACT:

techconnect@asd.edu.qa

Mankosi has built their own wifi network where they reroute WIFI from a nearby city to their rural village, with the help of the Zenzeleni Network (an organization in South Africa). Therefore, they can provide their people access to the internet for much lower costs (about $2 per month). However, the people of Mankosi still lack the knowledge and mediums through which to access the internet (e.g. laptops). That is where we want to help.

TechConnect is centered around providing students and adults around the world with one of the most important tools needed for learning in the modern era: the Internet.

In 2021 there are still more than 3.1 billion people without access to the internet (DataReportal). During the pandemic this lack of access is more problematic than before as it permits many from continuing their education or jobs. This issue is pervasive even in developed countries. In California alone 1.2 million students lacked access to the internet at home (EdSource). This is intolerable in a world where practically all educational resources are found online. This has to be fixed!

SERVICE REQUIREMENTS

Be actively engaged in the club’s assigned tasks. Attend all meetings and lessons/speaker series.
