The Mission: Shakespeare calls Romeo and Juliet star‑crossed (Fate). Your job is to test whether human Choice—or the lack of it—drives the tragedy.
Part 2: The SCAMPER Toolkit (The Strategy): Choose ONE act or ONE major turning point. Then use SCAMPER prompts to “hack” the play’s logic.

List Group 1 Members: Blake Anthony Makayla Akua | Substitute (S): Substitute Friar Lawrence’s decision to help Romeo and Juliet with indifference. If Friar Lawrence didn’t give Romeo the idea to go see Juliet they would’ve never spoke again. | Combine (C): Combine Tybalt and Benvolio’s intentions to try and keep Romeo away from Juliet instead of working against each other. If that happened Romeo and Juliet would’ve never met again. | Adapt (A): Adapt Romeo’s decision to run away from Tybalt instead of fighting him, if this happened Romeo wouldn’t have been banished. |
Modify(M): Modify the role of Tybalt. If Romeo had killed some random man he wouldn’t have been banished. Romeo comes from a highly rich family, killing an unknown person wouldn’t be hard to cover up. | Put to Other Uses (P): The Role of the Prince could be put to use. The Prince determines what goes around in that place. If he made a rule or law that the two families were not allowed to be enemies Romeo and Juliet could be in love in pace. | Eliminate (E): If we eliminate the fact that Juliet was engaged to someone else nothing would have changed. Their families would still be enemies so they could never get together anyways. | Rearrange(R): Rearrange the order of events of, Romeo talking to Friar Lawrence and Romeo killing Tybalt. If Romeo killed Tybalt after taking his advice to talk to Juliet he would’ve broken Juliet’s trust and she most likely would’ve fell out of love. |
List Group 2 Members: Amani, Jayme, Trason, Zion, Corionna | Substitute (S) Juliet's love was replaced by Rosaline's love. Rosaline would have been equally in love with Romeo, and Juliet would have never been in the picture to begin with. | Combine (C) If the friar had told the king about the affair and the soon to be marriage, things could have ended quickly/ differently instead of the two dying( Romeo & Juliet. | Adapt (A) To solve the family feud, the characters could adapt a "Public Relations" strategy. Instead of a secret wedding, they could have staged a public engagement |
Minimize (M) Dramatic language Maximize His love for Rosaline Modify The party hosted by Capulets. | Put to Other Uses (P) If the party where Juliet and Romeo met at never happen it would reduce the chance of them meeting | Eliminate (E) If we remove Juliet the tragedy will not occur because Romeo wouldn’t be driven by his desirable love for a girl he couldn’t be with. | Rearrange/Reverse ® Romeo commits suicide when he eventually finds out about Juliet’s secret identity, because he knows he could never truly be with her. |

List Group 4 Members: Tavarius Cook Brayden Wallace Kameron Stinson | Substitute (S) Romeo and Rosalina fall in love instead of juliet. | Combine (C) Combine their names into Juliet Romeo-Capulet | Adapt (A) Romeo listens to his dream/vision and doesn’t go to the party |
Minimize (M) Reducing the intensity of the two families feud. Maximize Romeo was more mature. Modify The Capulets throw a party to celebrate the engagement of Romeo and Juliet. | Put to Other Uses (P) Use the story to signify the dangers of obsessive or impulsive love | Eliminate (E) We eliminate their heritage so they are no longer technical enemies | Rearrange/Reverse® Juliet is an Montague and romeo is a Capulet. |
