Welcome!

This book is a social story for tamariki transitioning to Target Road School. We encourage this book to be read to and with children before they start school in preparation for their start date. This book can be shared with whānau, friends and ECE centres. We look forward to getting to know you all and being part of your child’s learning journey at Target Road School.

Hooray it’s nearly time for you to start school! By now you might have…….

Visited Target Road school with your Kindy, Day Care or Pre-School.

Visited your new class and teacher.

Visited Target Road School in the weekend.

Before you come to school you will put on your uniform.

In Terms 1 and 4 bring your hat

You will pack your bag. Remember to pack…..

A drink bottle

Your Bookbag

Your lunch box with a healthy Brain Food snack, Morning tea and Lunch.

Your togs, towel and swimming bag in the summer.

Your hat in Term 1 and 4

Rain jacket

Spare clothes

Someone in your whānau will bring you to school on your first day and take you to your classroom at 8.30am.

You can show them all the exciting things in your classroom, show them the playground and sandpit and they can talk to your teacher.

When the bell goes at 8.50am that means it is time for your whānau to go home. Give them a big hug, kiss and a smile and say Goodbye.

You might feel excited, happy, nervous or sad. That’s ok. Your teacher and your class will look after you. Target Road School is a safe place. Your whānau will be back soon to pick you up.

You will eat an iti (small) Brainfood (wairoro kai) kai like fruit or vegetables, after some learning at 10am.

You will eat Morning Tea (paramanawa), a waenga (medium) sized kai, after a play at 11.30am.

At 1.30pm after another play you will eat your lunch (Tina), your nui (large) kai.
