YOUR TASK

Your final challenge of the year is to create a description of an educational video game that you design! Video game designers are always looking for new ideas, so here’s your chance to be innovative! You are creating the concept for a video game. If you have the tech skills to actually create the game, go for it after completing this slide deck. Just as in writing, it’s important to plan first when making video games, which is what you are doing with this project. Here are the requirements:

  • It must have an educational component and be related to a book that you have read or topic that we have covered this year in school.
  • It must be appropriate for school. Think about this before getting started.
  • Must include a name and objective (how you win).
  • Setting - Describe where AND when the story takes place with description and illustration.
  • Show your main characters and minor characters (you must have both) with name, description, and illustration for each.
  • Design a cover - If you were to market your video game, what would the cover or logo look like?

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Illustrations may be designed on Google Draw or drawn on paper and inserted into your slides using the camera. You may NOT insert pictures from the Internet. Check out this link if you’d like to directly insert Google Drawings into your slides. Just inserting a link is fine. REMEMBER THAT ALL GOOGLE DRAWINGS MUST BE SHARED SO “ANYONE AT CCPS WITH THE LINK CAN VIEW.”
  • Do you want to create your own original Google Drawings based off of photographs or Internet illustrations? Check out this link!
  • Descriptions must be detailed, interesting, and catchy! Use your sensory language and persuasive language to make other children want to play your video game!
  • Think outside the box! How can you make your game unique and not like other games that you have seen?
  • Make copies of slides if you need additional space.

EXTRA - RESEARCH OPTIONS

  • How do video game designers get a game concept, like the one you developed, into an actual video game?
  • What does it take to become a videogame designer? What skills, education, etc. do you need? How could you start to prepare now?
  • How do video game designers use coding to create video games?
  • What are binary numbers? How do they work? Why are they important in technology?
  • If you have the technology skills to create your video game, feel free to do so! Be certain to share with your teacher!
