A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Amos 6:1a, 4-7

Thus says the LORD the God of hosts:

Woe to the complacent in Zion! Lying upon beds of ivory, stretched comfortably on their couches, they eat lambs taken from the flock, and calves from the stall!

Improvising to the music of the harp, like David, they devise their own accompaniment. They drink wine from bowls and anoint themselves with the best oils; yet they are not made ill by the collapse of Joseph!

Therefore, now they shall be the first to go into exile,

and their wanton revelry shall be done away with.

The word of the Lord.  ◎ Thanks be to God.

12 of 55

◎ Praise the Lord, my soul!

○ Blessed he who keeps faith forever, secures justice for the oppressed, gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets captives free.

○ The LORD gives sight to the blind; the LORD raises up those who were bowed down. The LORD loves the just; the LORD protects strangers.

○ The fatherless and the widow he sustains, but the way of the wicked he thwarts. The LORD shall reign forever; your God, O Zion, through all generations. Alleluia.

A Reading from the first Letter of Saint Paul to Timothy 6:11-16

But you, man of God, pursue righteousness, devotion, faith, love, patience, and gentleness. Compete well for the faith. Lay hold of eternal life, to which you were called when you made the noble confession in the presence of many witnesses. I charge you before God, who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus, who gave testimony under Pontius Pilate for the noble confession, to keep the commandment without stain or reproach until the appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ that the blessed and only ruler will make manifest at the proper time,

14 of 55

the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, and whom no human being has seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal power. Amen.

The word of the Lord.  ◎ Thanks be to God.

○ Glory to you, O Lord.

+ A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 16:19-31

Jesus said to the Pharisees: "There was a rich man who dressed in purple garments and fine linen and dined sumptuously each day. And lying at his door was a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who would gladly have eaten his fill of the scraps that fell from the rich man's table. Dogs even used to come and lick his sores. When the poor man died, he was carried away by angels to the bosom of Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried, and from the netherworld, where he was in torment, he raised his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he cried out, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me.

17 of 55

Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am suffering torment in these flames.' Abraham replied, 'My child, remember that you received what was good during your lifetime while Lazarus likewise received what was bad; but now he is comforted here, whereas you are tormented. Moreover, between us and you a great chasm is established to prevent anyone from crossing who might wish to go from our side to yours or from your side to ours.' He said, 'Then I beg you, father, send him to my father's house, for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they too come to this place of torment.' But Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the prophets.

18 of 55

Let them listen to them.' He said, 'Oh no, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.' Then Abraham said, 'If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.'"

+ The Gospel of the Lord.  ◎ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

<Profession of Faith>- Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

21 of 55

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.

Amen.

<The Universal Prayer>  ◎ Lord, hear our prayer.

+ Firm in faith and trusting in God's fidelity, we offer our prayers for the church and the world.

1. For the Church, the body of Christ: for the pope and bishops, for clergy and laity, that all may know unity in Christ Jesus, we pray to the Lord.

2. For those who work to preserve the dignity of all human life, that they will not lose heart, we pray to the Lord.

3. For the sick, especially those with terminal illness, that their nearness to God bring them healing and hope, we pray to the Lord.

4. For all of us worshiping here today as a strong community of faith, we pray to the Lord.

+ Faithful God, draw us ever closer to you. Hear our prayers and answer them in your mercy. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

◎ Amen.

+ The Lord be with you.

◎ And with your spirit.

+ Lift up your hearts.

◎ We lift them up to the Lord.

+ Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

◎ It is right and just.

28 of 55

<Preface>

+ It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.

….

And therefore, with all the Angels and Saints, we praise you, as without end we acclaim:

30 of 55

+ You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness. Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall, so that they may become for us the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his Passion, he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT, FOR THIS IS MY BODY, WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.

31 of 55

In similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice and, once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying:

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT, FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD, THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL COVENANT, WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU AND FOR MANY FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS. DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

32 of 55

+ The mystery of faith.

33 of 55

+ Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his Death and Resurrection. We offer you, Lord, the Bread of life and Chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that, partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord, your Church, spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Leo XVI, our Pope, and John the Baptist, our Bishop and all the clergy. Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who died in your mercy: welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with the blessed Apostles, and all the Saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.

34 of 55

+ Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, forever and ever.

+ At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

35 of 55

36 of 55

37 of 55

+ Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

38 of 55

+ Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles: Peace I leave you, my peace I give you; look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will. Who live and reign for ever and ever.

Amen

+ The peace of the Lord be with you always.

◎ And with your spirit.

+ Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

◎ Peace be with you.

[THE JUBILEE PRAYER]

Father in heaven, / may the faith you have given us / in your Son, Jesus Christ, our brother, / and the flame of charity enkindled / in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,/ reawaken in us the blessed hope / for the coming of your Kingdom. / May your grace transform / us into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel. / May those seeds transform from / within both humanity and the whole cosmos / in the sure expectation of a new heaven and a new earth, / when, with the powers of Evil vanquished, / your glory will shine eternally.

54 of 55

May the grace of the Jubilee / reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope, / a yearning for the treasures of heaven. / May that same grace spread / the joy and peace of our Redeemer throughout the earth. / To you our God, eternally blessed, / be glory and praise for ever. /

Amen.
