  • Blood vessels in the cooled area constrict reducing in diameter.

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY EFFECT

  • The initial reduction in blood flow to the cooled area reduces swelling and inflammation.
  • The accumulation of excess fluid is reduced, along with the amount of inflammatory substances and immune cells reaching the site.
  • There’s also research to suggest extreme cold reduces the production of certain pro-inflammatories and increases the production of anti-inflammatories.

ANALGESIC EFFECT

  • Research indicates extreme cold has both an analgesic and anesthetic effect, decreasing pain and feeling.
  • Nerve transmission and activity in pain fibers are believed to reduce which heightens pain threshold and tolerance.
  • In addition, the reduction in inflammation and swelling, along with the later increase in blood circulation, helps relieve muscle tightness, discomfort, and pain.

LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE

  • Current science indicates that cryotherapy may help enhance lymphatic drainage.

  • The Lymphatic system relies on muscle contraction to push lymph fluid through lymph vessels. Extreme cold exposure causes muscles in and near lymph vessels to contract forcing lymph fluid through the nodes enhancing lymphatic drainage.

  • There’s also research to suggest that pressure further increases the flow rate of lymph fluid.

How to Perform an INSTANTCRYO™� Treatment

  • Apply directly on clean and dry skin.
  • No creams, lotions or wraps on the skin.
  • Ensure client has signed a consent form.
  • Examine the area to be treated using thermal camera or physical tests.
  • Ensure client is comfortable and remains stationary at all times during the treatment.
  • Treat the client using the correct nozzle for the required duration.
  • Wait 5 minutes post-treatment.
  • Examine the treated area using thermal camera or physical tests.

INSTANTCRYO™ Aftercare

  • No downtime is required post-treatment.
  • Check for soreness or redness post-treatment. If there is, apply a suitable cream or lotion.
  • Examine if range of motion has increased.
  • Advise client to adhere to the rest and rehabilitation exercises prescribed by a physio or sports therapist before returning to normal movement & activity.
  • Decide on treatment plan including maintenance and preventative care.

  • History of vascular impairment, such as frostbite or arteriosclerosis.
  • Cold allergy/intolerance – Cryoglobulinemia, Cryofibrigenemia, Cold Urticaria (cold urticaria)
  • Paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria.
  • Peripheral arterial occlusive disease (Fontaine stages III and IV)
  • Thromboembolic changes and inflammation in the venous system
  • Agammaglobulinemia
  • Cancer
  • Treatment over stomach, abdomen, and lower back if pregnant (all trimesters)
  • Severe anaemia
  • Polyneuropathy (Diabetes mellitus)
  • Acute infections with or without raised temperature
  • Anyone under the influence of drugs, especially antipsychotics and alcohol
  • Severe consumptive diseases, generalized bacterial or viral skin infections

  • Acute respiratory diseases of various origin
