How to Create a Virtual Community

  1. Madmagz (French company)
  2. Create an account and choose Free (Modern) option
  3. Validate button = choose, confirm, save edits, etc.
  4. Cover page, Summary, Editor, Article, Briefs, Portfolio, Full Page Visuals
  5. Google images-Tools->Usage Rights->Labeled for noncommercial reuse
  6. Madmagz will often say image is not recommended to use, but validate anyway
  7. Edit texts or photos (depending on layout)
  8. Publish only when certain you’re done [cannot edit after publishing]
    1. Can download, but madmagz watermark is distracting

Another Alternative

Map of our Sites:

http://www.ucipathwayproject.com/our-partners.html

Each school/teacher can have a pin on the map with a link to their bio poems or we can create a national Bio Poem book

Could be Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Forms, or the Madmagz Book

Teachers will just need to coordinate with Abigail and Huy to share them

Obtain permission to publish from Teachers (their own poems) and from Students

How we can Use the Pathway Project Website

Please revisit: www.ucipathwayproject.com

Do you want to have a common tab where all resources are under one tab for all states and you download and/or make copies of files for your own way of dissemination

Or

Does each state want an individual tab for their teachers and use our site as a place where teachers can access files unique to each site, etc.?

Commenting on Early Start Papers

  • After the pre-tests have been taken (by October?) work with SRI Liaison to schedule a way to receive pre-tests in class batches by November
  • Obtain class rosters from teachers or SRI
  • Assign each teacher a code, each student a code, and de-identify papers
    • Teachers: State+Year+School+Treatment+Teacher+Class section
    • Students: State+Year+School+Treatment+Teacher+Class section+Position on Roster or from SRI file
  • Prepare scoring rosters
  • Prepare packets/Online folders
  • Recruit readers/commentors [double check with your business office who you can hire]
  • Train readers [prior to Winter Break]
  • Set deadline for receipt of comments [prior to Revision Tutorial PD]
  • Scan packets that come back/Make copies to share before returning them to teachers

  • Participating in planning meetings
  • Responding to drafts of materials
  • Answering specific questions that come up as you plan

Thinking partners can NOT

  • Plan the pd for you

15 of 21

Implementation

Thinking partners can help you implement your planned pd by

  • Attending pd days as an observer
  • Taking notes at a pd session as requested by you
  • Discussing what worked/what didn’t work after a pd session
  • Helping you to answer difficult questions that come up in a session (during or after as you prefer)

Thinking partners canNOT

  • Deliver pd for you

16 of 21

Reflection

Thinking partners can help you reflect on/learn from your pd implementation by

  • Being your careful listening friend
  • Asking questions about what they observered/you have reported
  • Naming moves they saw you make in pd that worked/didn’t work
  • Providing writing/discussion prompts during post-pd reflection/planning meetings

Thinking partners will not try to impact your reflection by telling you what you did wrong, what you should do next time, or why they would do a better job than you did

17 of 21

Networking

Your thinking partner can help build the Pathway Network by

  • Sharing your successes/additions/revisions to Pathway with other thinking partners
  • Bringing forward questions/concerns for discussion by the larger team
  • Sharing resources with you from other Pathway teams

Thinking partners cannot improve Pathway/Pathway Outcomes for students, unless you share your Pathway experiences with them for learning purposes
