Update on Efforts to Build Infrastructure

  • Recall presenting to representatives of the president in summer 2023

They liked the idea of watersports facilities at the dams. A meeting was arranged for us with the Water Development Department (WDD).

  • Meeting held between CyDBF president and WDD Mrs Iliana Tofa on 23/01/2024. Mrs Tofa seemed to hold a different stance to her predecessor, and was open to having water reservoirs used for water sports.

Temporary permits for Germasogeia and Mavrokolympos (and Kourris) were given, following this meeting.

Update on Efforts to Build Infrastructure

  • In that meeting, it was established that there are no problems with the usage of the water, but there are logistical issues with the usage of the land around the water, leading to safety concerns, which need to be addressed asap.
  • It was also established, that proper infrastructure for paddling/rowing sports must be built in Germasogeia
  • The reps of the president of the republic were informed, and advised us to see KOA first before holding any other meetings.

Next steps

  • Arrange for topographer (land surveyor) to identify land parcel limits in Germasogeia so that a proper proposal can be made on how to use the available land to store our equipment safely and fairly.
  • This is necessary before permanent permits can be issued by WDD.
  • Ask for WDD to review the Asprokremnos and Tamassos applications separately, again, since no special planning is required there.
  • Arrange for a meeting with the Minister of Education to explain why we need the infrastructure and ask her to push KOA to take the necessary steps.
