  • 13 Minutes: Partner A: Describe your image to Partner B using size, shape, color, texture and location. Partner B will RECREATE the image using items found at home based on Partner A’s instruction.
  • 2 Minutes: reflect on what worked and what additional supports would have helped you.
  • If there is time, switch and repeat using Partner B’s photograph and directions.
  • Please record your artworks - we will be adding them to the Making Learning Visible google folder together.

Breakout Rooms: 2 people, 30 minutes.

McHarris 6-8 Science NUSD

Start by connecting the breath to the body..

Starting with self-awareness through artistic and body expression to plant deep grounding roots...

NEXT: Given space, time and careful tending, these grounded foundations will help students feel safe and secure to take risks.

Providing students with scaffolded activities to take risks and show what they know, they have the opportunity and confidence to be heard and make meaningful contributions.

Activities to produce productive group interactions and self-awareness:

  • Gesture group dance
  • Mirroring activities
  • I go, You go
  • Sharing identity mind-maps
  • Discussing shared experiences

Being a student in this version of an online class has allowed me to gain perspective on how my students will see their own online learning, and a better understanding of the diversity in students background and skills that impact their ability to learn. I look forward to using these tools in my lessons, as well as to continue to grow in my skills as an educator. I will be using citizen science in my lessons on our school habitat garden. The study of inquiry a topic I will look further into because as an outdoor educator I want to encourage and inspire everyone of any age to continue to ask questions, wonder, and discover the world around us.
