Our Aim for This Evening…

Purpose:

Provide a comprehensive overview of our 10th grade school counseling program and share information specific to the post-secondary planning process, especially as it pertains to standardized testing.

Goal:

Increase understanding of the resources and options available to your child so that you will be better prepared to decipher the post-secondary planning process.

Academic and Personal Monitoring�~Ongoing~

Purpose:

  • To get a sense of the student’s self-evaluation with regard to academic and personal progress

  • To encourage the student to set goals, get/remain involved in activities that will help develop interests

  • To gauge the student’s social and emotional well-being and learn more about them personally

January

    • Elective courses have been entered by the counselors

February

    • Teachers made initial course recommendations for core classes and informed students.

April

    • Teachers review initial recommendations and make changes, if necessary (end of quarter 3) At that time information will be provided regarding the override policy.

May

    • Override submissions are due to school counselors promptly by May 1st.
    • Counselors will work on schedules conflicts and meet with students and/or parents as needed (May and June)

Career & College Awareness:�Exploring Naviance�December 2025

Purpose of the Program:

  • Encourage students to ponder personal and career interests

Naviance Reminder

Naviance is a closed system and the data contained within is ONLY accessible to the student/parent and school counseling staff.

Data contained within, GPA and test scores, are either uploaded from eSchool or input by the counseling clerical staff. Scores are not uploaded via the College Board or ACT.

Colleges do not have access to student data.

Students with Disabilities

College Board: Parent submits consent to the high school counselor requesting testing accommodations Consent should be submitted as early as 9th grade, but well in advance of any test administration date.

ACT: Student registers for the exam and indicates that you will be requesting accommodations. Follow ACT instructions to alert Mr. Grabelsky at the school to submit required documentation.

PSAT Reminders

  • These scores are not reported to anyone other than the student and the HS

  • Colleges do not ask for or receive PSAT Scores

  • Athletic recruiters might ask students for PSAT scores to use as an early indicator of future official scores

  • PSAT Scores will be uploaded into your Naviance account

National Merit Scholarship Programs

Participation in the National Merit Scholarship program is determined by the Selection Index.

PSAT scores received in 10th grade are not used to participate in this program. Only scores from the PSAT in 11th grade.
