Education in England

In Great Britain school begins at the age of five.

Many boys and girls usually leave school at the age of sixteen.

In England schools have two steps :

primary and secondary.

Infant schools are informal.

It means children don’t sit at the desk.

They on the carpet relax.

Junior schools are formal.

Sitting at the desk is normal.

  • Children listen to their teacher sitting on the carpet,
  • Draw pictures,
  • Play games,
  • Sing songs,
  • Role-play.

At infant schools children learn how to get on.

Before classes they sing a nice song.

They draw, play games ,read fairy tales,

jump, run and have a lot of fun!

Schools in England use their own marks

  • A – 90-100 -excellent ,
  • B – 80-89 – good,
  • C – 70-79 – satisfactory,
  • D – 60-69 bad,
  • E – 0-59 poor

  • In Britain at the end of each term school sends a report to parents. It has the pupil’s marks in all subjects and the teacher’s comments on the pupil’s progress.

Secondary school

  • At the age of 11 children go to secondary school. They study there for 6 years. At the age of 16 they pass GCSE exam. They can either leave school or continue their education for 2 years. Students pass A-level exam at the age of 18.
