College Application Process

  • CSU window: October 1st – November 30th
  • UC window: August 1st – November 30th
          • Application submission begins on October 1st
  • Private & Out of State Schools: Varies by college
          • Check each school that you want to apply to, create a chart with school name and application window
          • Check to see if school is a WUE (Western Undergraduate Exchange)
  • Community College
          • Applications are in Spring

CSU Applications

  • Create an account on: https://www2.calstate.edu/apply

  • Fill out one application and choose the number of schools that you want your application to be sent to (23 CSUs in California).

  • Self- report courses and grades per transcript
    • The application and course info will transfer but you must add the major and housing choice to each application

UC Applications

  • Fill out one application and choose the schools that you want your application to be sent to (9 UCs in California).
  • Self- report courses and grades per transcript

  • Work on Personal Insight questions (must choose 4 out of 8)
      • Make sure you answer in YOUR voice
      • Attend College Workshops on Wednesdays, during lunch in the Counseling Office
  • Apply for fee waiver, if applicable
  • Apply for EOP, if applicable

Private & Out of State Schools

  • Check with the school to see if they are a Common App school (if not a Common App school - apply directly to the school).
  • Counselors will be coming to your Government classes to show students how to link their Common Application to their Xello account.

    • Remember: Students create their application in Common App and teachers and counselors send letters of recommendations in Xello.
    • You must request a letter of recommendation, at least two weeks in advance. The last date to request a letter for 2023, is 12/1/23.

FAFSA/Dream Act UPDATE

  • 2023-24 FAFSA Opens TBD

  • All students must apply for a FAFSA ID number

  • One parent must apply for a FAFSA ID number

  • FAFSA deadline is TBD, but the earlier you file the better!

Scholarships

  • Never pay or give your SSN# for a scholarship

  • Keep track of scholarships and awards so you can be recognized at your senior award night.

To Do List

  • Create an appropriate email
  • Create a family chart to keep track of deadlines, requirements, submitted dates
  • Keep your grades up - the entire year counts!
  • Apply for scholarships and FAFSA even if you don’t think you are eligible.
  • Check your student and personal email (including spam folder) often and complete any and all requests for information
  • Be mindful of Social Media posts and deadlines!!!

  • Do not submit without having a counselor or staff member review your application

  • Do not request a letter of recommendation for CSU nor UC schools

  • They will not be final until after the end of the first semester

  • It is important to keep up your grades now and throughout the year
