Business Academy

The strength of the Business Academy lies in the fact that there is a strong emphasis on technology as well as strong ties to the City of Santa Fe Springs business community through its mentorship program.a

  • Tenth grade bus tech students learn CIS 1.
  • Eleventh grade business tech students learn CIS II and participate in a mentor program in which students are paired with members of the business community.
  • Senior Business Tech Academy students learn CIS III, participate in the Santa Fe Springs Chamber's Future Business Leader Committee and have the experience of being a participating member of city government.

Mechanical and Architectural Drafting Academy

The Mechanical and Architectural Drafting Academy at Santa Fe High School is a 3- year program that guides and prepares students for careers in Design, Engineering, Architecture, and other related fields.

This course is designed to explore the experiences, treatment, and social impact of various minority groups who have made positive contributions to the American story/study, but whose stories are often untold. Students will examine America through the lens of Hispanic, African, Asian, and Native Americans. We will consider Migration, Legal inequalities, Socio-Economics, Culture, Gender, and current Social Justice issues.

Art 2 - Advanced Drawing and Painting

This class will help you develop your current art skills, push you beyond your style, and introduce you to new artists and materials. You will enjoy creating larger artworks, experimenting with new mediums, and having fun sharing your passion for art with other like-minded students.

Prerequisites: A grade of “B” or better in Art 1, or instructor’s approval.

Art 3 (Art Workshop)

If you can’t stop sketching in your other classes, and creativity runs

through your veins, then this class will help you with your art addiction!

This class is made for the artist who’s already completed Advanced

Drawing/Painting (Art 2) with an awesome grade, and would like a more independent study approach to develop their talent and become even more amazing!

Prerequisites: A grade of “B” or better in Art 2, or instructor’s approval. Must be a junior or senior.

A.P. Art History

This course will provide you with the intellectual ammo you need to pass the AP Art History exam in May with a strong score. You will enjoy taking a class that explores images from the devil to the divine, the naked to the nude, the super-real to the supernatural, and the political to the passé.

Prerequisites: Must be a junior or senior with a G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher.

  • This class is for those who love to build, construct or just experiment with different kinds of tools, materials, and techniques.
  • Recommended for juniors or seniors.

Commercial Art (Fashion Design)

Are you interested in fashion design, silk-screen printing on t-shirts, crafts, sewing, and street art? Take this class! You will learn about old school printing techniques, how to sew, and new art trends.

Suggested prerequisite: Should have earned a “C” in Art 1, Three Dimensional Design. However, if you have a passion for fashion and design, you can skip Art One.

  • The largest and most visible instrumental group on campus.
  • Performs at all football games, pep rallies, assemblies, parades, field competitions, and theme parks.
  • Requires many hours of practice and performances outside the normal school day.

  • Must attend workshops and audition in May
  • Performs as part of the marching band in the fall

Guitar

Have you ever wanted to play guitar but never had the opportunity? In guitar class, you can learn how to play some of your favorite songs and sound like your favorite guitarists. You will learn scales, lead solos, and chord progressions used in many classical, rock, reggae, and folk tunes. We also teach you how to make repairs on your guitar and even play other instruments such as bass, mandolin, and drums. Instruments will be provided.

Students learn how to read music, play the

Theatre Arts

Students will learn performance basics such as warming-up, theatre games, and developing skills in pantomime and improvisation. They will perform in dramatic and comedic roles in monologues, pairs, and large and small groups. Skills developed in stage direction, voice production, and character creation. Student will explore technical theatre such as props, costume, make-up, and lighting.

Theatre Workshop is an advanced theatre class for those students who have enjoyed and passed Theatre Arts with a “B” or better. During the first and third quarters, students will develop performance pieces and perform at the DTASC Fall and Spring Shakespeare Festivals.
