Course Description

  • The focus of social studies this year is on understanding the critical events, issues, and individuals in US History to 1880.
  • This will include a limited review of the Native Americans’ life, and colonies through the American Revolution, an analysis of the US Constitution, a comparison of the first presidencies, Westward Expansion, and the American Civil War.
  • My goal is to build a positive learning environment in the classroom, in which all students develop historical thinking skills that can be applied across the disciplines with a focus on reading, writing, and speaking in an analytical and critical way.

Late Work Policy

  • The goal for all students should be to turn in their assignments on time.
  • If you fail to turn in an assignment on time, the late work policy is:
  • Late work will NOT be accepted MORE THAN TWO (2) weeks after the due date and for a maximum of 75% (unless there is an excused absence and/or the parent/ guardian has contacted me with a verified reason and I approve extra time to complete the assignment.)
  • You need to be caught up with current assignments in order to turn in late work.
    • After 5 late/missing assignments, I will contact your parents(s)/guardian(s) to discuss a plan to get your work completed on time.

  • Incomplete assignments will NOT be graded and will be treated as late work. You may complete the assignment within the two week late work window and turn it in again.

All completed late assignments will be given HALF CREDIT (50%). NO late work will be accepted after the completion of a unit ().

IMPORTANT NOTE: Late work will be graded and posted once all other student work turned in on time has been graded and posted. You will need to be patient!
