Making Guidelines Computable Panel Presentation
GIN 2025- Joanne Dehnbostel
I work at Computable Publishing LLC
I am on the Board of the Scientific Knowledge Accelerator Foundation (SKAF)
Our Company has developed the FEvIR Platform at https://fevir.net
High-level features of the FEvIR Platform
VIEW
– show Group Resource for the StudyGroup example (pre-made with eligibility criteria)
Create a FHIR Resource – show selecting the ComparativeEvidence Profile
Create a FHIR Resource
Choose to Create a Comparative Evidence Report
We have created a FHIR Composition Resource with Comparative Evidence Profile
Create an Evidence Resource reference the StudyGroup from population/observed
To represent the population, we can reuse the resource for uncomplicated malaria
We can create a FHIR Evidence resource and reference the existing StudyGroup from population/observed
And here is the Resource after the change we made
Change tracking - create Change Report
We have a Medline Converter Tool
When a PubMedID is entered
It creates an HL7 FHIR Citation Resource
You can also do a Medline Search, converts to citation resources
This results in a FHIR Library resource with a list of Citations that match your query
Let’s search for the Composition Resource that we created earlier
Here is the search function
And here is the result
…and we are back to our Composition resource
You can click on this little bell icon to be notified if there are any changes to the Resource
Click on the star icon to add the Resource to your favorites
You can comment on a Resource
This creates an ArtifactAssessment Resource
Many of you probably use MAGICapp, We have a MAGICapp converter
MAGICapp already contains structured data, and we can convert that to FHIR Format
This ID number happens to be the WHO Guideline for Malaria
The data from MAGICapp becomes 3064 FHIR Resources
We can Click on Guideline from MAGICapp: WHO guidelines for malaria to see it in a Guideline Viewing Tool
We can expand sections, like case management
We can expand Treating Malaria
And from there, we can expand Treating Uncomplicated Malaria
We can expand Artemisinin-based combination therapy
Here it is
We can then click on an individual recommendation
We can then view the individual Recommendation on the FEvIR Platform
These recommendation sections can also be expanded
So here we have a strong recommendation for patients with uncomplicated malaria
This was all going to become very important
When we met some people from an organization called ebase Africa and were asked to convert a Malaria Guideline from Cameroon to Computable Form, I’d like you to meet Noella Awah
In Summary, the problem
Using the Guideline Authoring Tool on the FEvIR Platform
As Noella Described, we were able to create the Malaria Guideline for Cameroon in Computable Form
A downloadable PDF Format is also available, which can be used on a mobile phone
Thank you!
