How is High School different than Junior High?

  • More independence and responsibility
  • No teams
    • Each student has unique schedule
    • Students do not travel together from class to class
  • Freshmen may be in class with Soph., Jr., and/or Sr.
  • Expectation is that students will begin advocating for themselves.

How Do I Decide My Electives?

  • What are my interests?
    • If I want to be in FFA, I should take an ag class.
    • If I really like art, maybe Art I.
  • What kind of job/career do I eventually want?
  • What college do I want to attend?
    • Parkland - ISU - U of I - Northwestern
    • Some 4 year schools still require 2-3 years of a foreign language to be accepted.
    • Taking 4 years of a foreign language generally means that students won’t have to take it in college.

***Do not decide based on what your friends want to take. You are not guaranteed to be in the same class with them.
