Skills For Life Academy

The Skills For Life Academy offers a functional based academic program while learning employability skills in a technical program.

The goal of the program is to prepare our young adults to function as independently as possible and to be contributing members of society.

With a multidisciplinary approach, the team will support the goals of our young adults while meeting their learning needs.

Skills For Life Academy Students

-Students attend from our six sending school districts:

  • Bensalem, Bristol Borough, Bristol Township, Pennsbury, Morrisville, and Neshaminy

-High School Students typically attend from age 17-22.

-”Super Seniors” attend from 18-22 as a Transition Program option.

Skills For Life Academy Schedule

Students rotate on a 12 day rotation schedule:

-Life Skills Support Academic Program (6 Days)

* Math, Reading, Writing, Social Skills, Daily Living, Computers and Transition Prep

-Technical Program (6 Days)

* The IEP team will determine a technical program that best meets the goals and

needs of the students.

-Students attend Inclusion Health/Physical Education on both rotations (12 Days)

Employability Skills:

-Dining Room/Front of the House -Following Recipes

-Prepping/Cutting Skills -Catering Skills

-Cooking Skills -Kitchen/Restaurant Dishroom

-Industrial Laundry Skills -Assembly Line

-Buffet Prep -Health & Safety Skills

Employability Skills:

-Custodial jobs within the school -Operating Small Power Tools

-BCTHS Recycling Program -School Event Setup/Breakdown

-Industrial Size Shredder -Restroom Cleaning

-Vacuuming -Dusting

-Mopping -Package Delivery

-Groundskeeping -Basic Carpentry Skills

Community Based Instruction

Students will be given the opportunity to attend Community Based Instruction (CBI). The goal of CBI is to apply previously learned skills in the classroom to authentic situations in a community environment.

-Academic Math, Reading, Daily Living and Social Skills

-Employability Skills within the Technical Program

-Independent Living Skills

-Travel Training

*Board Approval, Clearances, and Direct Deposit Required

Ages 19- 20

*Supported Work Experience: to assess employability skills with a job coach

Ages 20-22

* OVR Referral *Base Service Unit: Waiver List

Community Resources

*Students and Families are encouraged to include their Support Agencies with Transition Planning as the young adults transition out of the education system.

*The IEP team is happy to assist in working with OVR, Base Service Unit, Support Providers, Mobile Therapists, Job Coaches, etc.
