WHAT ARE TROVANTS?

  • Trovants are natural geological formations made of cemented sandstones.
  • They were formed about 14 million years ago, during the Miocene period. Mineral rich waters infiltrated the sand, depositing calcium carbonate, which acted as a natural cement.
  • Their shapes vary: spherical, oval, cylindrical, zoomorphic, or anthropomorphic. Some look like mushrooms, others like spaceships or human figures.
