LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Greetings Middle School Families,

Welcome to our new and returning families for the 2023-2024 school year.

I am honored to serve as the principal of the Middle School.

Our team of educators is committed to ensuring Newfield Middle School continues to provide standards of

high-quality instruction in every classroom with deep care. We encourage you to be active participants in your child’s education.

As I enter my 24th year of work in the district, I understand the importance of working together with educators, students, and families. As a team, we can collectively ensure that every student is successful at Newfield Middle School. I am fortunate to have known many of you, even as students.  I look forward to meeting the new families as well.  I have an open-door policy.  I want to make sure I am accessible to members of the community as well as the students.  I will make every effort to respond to your emails and calls in a timely manner.  I want to make sure that we have open lines of communication throughout the year.  Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.

We will be sending out a monthly newsletter to inform you of upcoming events and important dates.  Our district website calendar is also a wonderful resource.

I am so excited to see all of the successes that lie ahead for our students.

Respectfully,

Melissa Addy, Principal

SCHOOLTOOL PARENT PORTAL:

Page 7

Newfield has a web-based student management system. The system includes a parent portal, which enables parents and legal guardians of students to review information about their child’s progress: attendance, discipline, report card grades, and recently graded assignments. Using the district’s homepage, click on Menu, then link on Families +,Schooltool Parent Portal. Your username is the email address on file with the district.

Please review your child’s census data for accuracy. If any of the information is not current, please call the Middle School at

(607) 564-9955 ext. 2126.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:

Page 8

1. When a student accumulates ten tardy arrivals or ten absences

(legal or illegal), an attendance notice will be sent home.

2. If the child accumulates additional absences or tardiness, a conference request will be sent to the student's home.

3. A meeting will be scheduled with the parent/guardian and appropriate staff member.

4. When absences from school appear to form a pattern or become excessive to the point where they interfere with a child’s ability to learn, the principal will review the case to determine appropriate legal attention.

5. We hope we can work together to resolve the situation before we consider the last option.
