HALHF Timeline and Meetings (Website)

2

  • March 2023 - HALHF paper posted to arXiv
  • March 2023 - ALEGRO meeting at DESY. Wim suggests that the European AAC community focus on HALHF concept. Not a consensus decision.
  • July 2023 - Community Report on Accelerator Roadmaps at Frascati.
    • Wim presents the following:
      • HALHF pre-CDR due by end of 2025
      • CDR funding for 25 postdocs at 2.7 MEuro/year
      • 14 Work Packages with 25 named WG leaders
  • September 2023 - Lindstrøm awarded ERC for beam-driven plasma staging.
  • October 2023 - HALHF Kickoff Meeting (Password: HALHF-DESY-2023)
  • November 2023 - HALHF Upgrade paper posted to arXiv.
  • December 2023 - HALHF Accelerator Task Force Meeting
  • January 2024 - Next HALHF Accelerator Task Force Meeting

Notes from HALHF Meeting

5

HALHF has working groups on:

  • Main plasma linac and staging.
  • Beam sources.
  • RF linac.
  • BDS and FF.
  • Detector.

HALHF is already engaged with conventional accelerator community.

  • Benno List (DESY) and Steffen Doebert (CERN) on RF linac.
  • Gudrid Moortgat-Pick (DESY) and Steffen Doebert (CERN) on positron source.
  • Nick Walker (DESY) and Andrei Seryi (JLab) on BDS and FF.
  • Steinar Stapnes (Oslo/CERN) on collider facility.

Notes from HALHF Meeting

6

Several statements from Carl Lindstrom, Benno List, Steffen Doebert along the lines of “longer wavelengths easier and cheaper”

  • CLIC came to a similar conclusion, as did ILC. How generic is this feature?

Design concepts

9

All components of the machine are tied to each other.

  • Can’t replace one accelerating technology with another and keep everything else the same.
  • Working groups share methodologies but produce different designs.
  • Probably end up with at least 6 designs.
    • Structure-based: e+e- and 𝛾𝛾
    • Laser-driven plasma: e+e- and 𝛾𝛾
    • Beam-driven plasma: e+e- and 𝛾𝛾

Do we want to include cost from the start?

  • For example, include John Seeman’s cost workup spreadsheet.

Integrated Working Groups.

10

Our working groups will mirror working groups already set up for HALHF and ILC.

  • We should partner with groups doing similar design work.
