Shapes XR and The Wild

  • successfully downloaded ShapesXR
  • imported some free obj files, spent time learning capabilities of each and using them keeping my framework in mind
  • wrote up framework for evaluating each one individually but also keeping in mind that I ultimately want to compare them (Seven Scenarios paper re-read was helpful)
    • ease of use - how intuitive are controls? are there tutorials or documentation readily available?
    • availability - pricing, is it downloadable through Quest Store, etc.
    • fluidity of visualization - is there a lot of lag, how much can you edit / rotate / scale the model?
    • types of files supported
    • collaborative potential + ability
    • extra capabilities… some of them let you create models in 3d together
  • finished wiki page for Shapes XR, have started The Wild (will continue to add to both)

Moving Forward

  • data visualization in VR is pretty well supported … want to look more into collaborating
  • possibly scheduling some short meetings with other people in the class, or if there are more headsets, using those with some friends
    • could be interesting to see how people with no VR experience navigate this
  • write up an activity for people to do collaboratively
    • specifically what capabilities do I want to zero in on and test?
  • keep looking into tools; currently I have Modelo and Sketchfab planned
