IB Programmes at Myers Park

9th and 10th Grade MYP

The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is a two-year international education programme that prepares students age 16–19 years for success going into, and throughout, university. The DP offers a holistic approach to teaching and learning with a keen focus on developing intercultural awareness. Students learn to explore and understand the world around them through inquiry, critical thinking and open-mindedness.

11th & 12th Grade DP

The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) is designed for students aged 11 to 16. It provides a framework of learning that encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers. The MYP emphasizes intellectual challenge, encouraging students to make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and the real world. It fosters the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding and global engagement—essential qualities for young people who are becoming global leaders.

Learning Outcome #

Explanation

Reflection Question(s)

  1. Become more aware of their own strengths and areas for growth

You are able to see yourself as an individual with various skills and abilities, some more developed than others, and understand that you can make choices about how you wish to move forward.

How did your achievements allow you to show personal development?

2. Undertake challenges that develop new skills

Challenges and new skills may be those not previously undertaken or acquired, or those that extend your existing expertise.

What skills have you acquired or further developed through your work?

3. Discuss, evaluate and plan student-initiated activities

The planning and initiation of an activity should involve a discussion and evaluation of objectives, responsibilities and expectations. These steps are often completed in collaboration with others.

What steps were taken to ensure the success of your activity?

4. Persevere in action

This is where you show determination and commitment by attending activities regularly and accepting a share of the responsibility for dealing with problems that arise in the course of activities.

What obstacles did you encounter?

How did you overcome those?

5. Work collaboratively with others

Collaboration can be shown in many different activities, including working with coaches, adults and other students.

Who did you work with in your activity?

How did you feel about being involved?

6. Develop international-mindedness through global engagement, multilingualism and intercultural understanding

This can mean being involved in international projects, but there are many global issues that can be acted upon locally or nationally (e.g. environmental concerns, caring for the elderly etc.)

How did your activity help you address a global issue, either locally, nationally, or internationally?

7. Consider the ethical implications of their actions

Ethical decisions arise in almost any Service as Action activity (e.g. by considering who will and who will not benefit from your actions

How did your participation in your activity affect you and others?
