Halloween in the USA doesn’t have the same history as Samain in Spain

It is mostly about trick or treating now and the costumes people dress up as.

Though the roots are in European history, Halloween has been commercialized in the United States.

Some people, don’t even celebrate Halloween.

As a child, I grew up going to church instead of trick-or-treating. I always dressed up as Pocahontas or Meg from Hercules. My parents are religious and believed that Halloween was a celebration of evil, so they did not let me celebrate.

If I didn’t go to church, we stayed at home and turned our lights off so that our neighbors would know we weren’t offering candy and to not ring our bell.

At church, I often bobbed for apples and ate cotton candy.

I got sweets still, without trick or treating.
