Introduction

The DOHS Cares Foundation is working to end sexual and gender-based violence by tackling the factors that drive sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) such as poverty, illiteracy, and gender inequality.

The foundation is achieving these aim by carrying out women empowerment programs, community sensitization programs and educational advocacy campaigns.

To display a dashboard where advocates and victims can access information and be

connected to volunteer community gatekeepers for rescue purposes.

Tracking

Track femicide across our social media for research purposes on ending GBV.

Boost advocacy

Guide survivors to transition into advocates for women and child rights. Foster building feminists/activists.

About Us

DOHS CARES Foundation seeks to be a holistic center for prevention of SGBV, offering research, innovation, empowerment, protection as well as trauma healing for survivors. We are also seeking to digitalize all our innovations (which we have started with the podcast and club therapy) namely;

DOHS Cares Foundation was birthed with a vision to eradicate gender inequality, uphold human rights and dignity, eliminate violence against women and girls and empower them, launch hope into spaces overcrowded with trauma, create inclusive communities for people with disabilities, build safe spaces for survivors and obtain justice for victims of abuse.

DOHS Cares foundation has a mission to foster a new generation of human rights advocates and engage in activities that guarantees the right of women, children and vulnerable people to be free from violence and exploitation. It started in 2021 with it’s document our history podcast, a platform for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, to speak up against abuse. It is the first (and still the only) Bibliotherapy podcast in Nigeria to offer survivors platform to use their experience to encourage others women to leave their toxic environment and stand against abuse.

DOHS implemented several initiatives such as club therapy which resulted from partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Education to carry out educational advocacy campaign in selected government schools in Lagos State.

The campaign addressed intersections between sexual and gender base violence (SGBV), menstrual health and mental health.

Major Milestones of 2023

DOHS partnered with an international organization called African Female voices for the 16 days of activism to create awareness online about violence against women and girls.

DOHS also hosted a podcast, Twitter space event and an online seminar to sensitize listeners about escaping abuse.

DOHS executed annual orphan and vulnerable children initiative at Royal diamond orphanage home in Ojodu, Lagos, where female teenagers were sensitized on sexual violence and menstrual health. Items were donated to the orphanage home.

In March 2023, DOHS implemented an initiative called Champion Her for female entrepreneurs to digitally upscale their entrepreneurship. This was done to mark the International Women’s Day.

The foundation was involved in rescue, reporting of cases of abuse, as well as justice assistance processes. The foundation was able to execute (72) cases, with (7) on-going cases in court.

Educational

Advocacy Campaign

    • Educational advocacy campaign executed in over 15 schools with over 2000 student participants.

    • Creation of club therapy (Bibliotherapy initiative to address SGBV) in schools for female students.

    • Club therapy has been created in three schools.

Women

Empowerment Programs

    • DOHS women empowerment programs have over 200 women who were trained to digitally upscale their entrepreneurship and also benefited from our free cervical cancer screening.

Conclusion

In 2023, the DOHS Cares Foundation made significant strides in its mission to combat sexual and gender-based violence through our diverse initiatives.

The numbers speak volumes, with 72 executed cases and ongoing court proceedings in 7 cases. Our commitment to justice, community sensitization, and survivor empowerment positions DOHS as a powerful force in the fight against abuse.

Our efforts in 2023 have left a lasting impact, giving women and children a future free from violence and exploitation.
