Types:

Drivetrains

  • Most important subsystem
  • Many types offering different kinds of driving
    • Many different types:
    • Swerve (what we use)
    • Tank - Many similar types of drivetrain
    • Mecanum

Intakes

  • Used to get game pieces into the robot and possibly scoring mechanisms
  • Comes in many varieties based off the current game
    • Based on would work best in the game, as perceived by you
  • Intakes can also be under the bumper as well as over the bumper

Arms

  • Rotates a certain amount (usually not 360) around a given pivot point
  • Arms can also have a join in them for generating
  • Usually capped with an end effector
    • Wrists can be added to the end of the arm in order to rotate an end effector

Elevators

  • Used to transport mechanisms/game pieces vertically
    • Usually transports pieces up and down, but can transport people diagonally (angled elevator)
    • Can have an end effector affixed to it to transport game objects

Telescopes

  • “Collapsible” arm
  • A collection of tubes that fit inside each other, and can be extended out to increase length
  • Variety of different uses, on arms, climbs, and many more

Shooters

  • Used to launch a moving object into the air - usually to score
    • Could also be used to shuttle game pieces across the field
  • Turrets - Shooter that rotates around a central axis to change the direction of the shooter

End Effectors

  • Mechanisms used on the “end” of arms and such to grip and score game pieces
    • These include claws, and sometimes intakes
  • Many varieties based off the game piece
