1. STARRY NIGHT

The Starry Night is an oil-on-canvas painting, painted by Vincent Van Gogh in June 1889

It is one of Van Gogh’s most famous paintings, if not the most famous one since the moment Van Gogh’s name is mentioned, our mind immediately goes over to this painting, making it Van Gogh’s signature. Though, a fact about this painting that not many people are aware of is that it was painted while Van Gogh was staying at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum after his mental breakdown. The beautiful stary night is actually the view Van Gogh had from his window in the asylum. So, as beautiful and mesmerising as this painting can be, you can still feel a slight hint of melancholy in it.

2. THE RED VINEYARD

The Red Vineyards near Arles is an oil painting painted in November 1888.

It is an example of Van Gogh’s fine art, featuring people working in a red vineyard, creating a warm feeling of both Summer and Autumn to the viewer. An interesting fact about this painting is that it is believed to be the only painting Van Gogh ever sold in his lifetime, which is what makes it a bit more special than the other paintings of his. The painting was firstly purchased by Anna Boch from the annual exhibition of Les XX, in 1890, in Brussels.

3. UNDERGROWTH

This is an oil-on-canvas painting painted in July 1889.

This gorgeous painting is a prime example of Van Gogh’s love for painting nature. It depicts a green scenery of a garden under the sunlight, showing Van Gogh’s talent in painting with the way he managed to capture the way the sunlight dripped down to the ground between the trees. This is yet another painting he painted during his stay at the Saint-Remy asylum where he was a patient, and this landscape specifically depicts the hospital’s garden.
