After the car accident at the end of season 1, Sam is left in a coma with little hope of waking up. Dean will do everything in his power to save his brother, including binding a reaper to his will if he has to. He just hopes he won't have to. John, knowing more about the demon's plans than he's willing to let on, disagrees with Dean's plan, going so far as to sabotage Dean's efforts in an attempt to protect the only son he has left. On top of all that, Dean hasn't told anyone that Sam is already a ghost, haunting his hospital room and making snarky comments any time Dean goes to visit.

summary: Alternate Season 15. Grieving the loss of Jack, Team Free Will is splintering. Cas needs time to process, leaving the Winchesters to find the solution to the God problem. Furious with Chuck for authorizing this event, Sam and Dean are beyond weirded out by the whole concept and are about ready to run out of there, right after they tell him a piece of their minds. Before they can, however, they get cornered by a very scorned Gabriel, who plans to retaliate for having left him trapped in a circle of holy fire. Sam, determined to have him on their side against Lucifer, asks him to hear them out first. Just as he is about to refuse and carry on with his plan, Gabriel realizes where they are, and finding the situation absolutely hilarious, he then "agrees" to give them the duration of the convention to persuade him.
But he knows it's pointless in the big scheme of things, so he figures might as well have some fun in the meantime.
Dean, not sharing the same faith in Gabriel that Sam does, wishes Castiel was there to have their backs. But no matter! He's already there, attending Chuck's panel, which is a jaw-dropping surprise to everyone.
And thus begins a weird evening when Team Free Will tries to turn into Team Free Love.
In the middle of a convention filled with fans.
Everyone seems to dig Gabriel's perfect cosplay of the Trickster. Nobody understands why someone would dress as Constantine at a Supernatural convention. Becky is sending the evil eye to Gabriel every time she spots Sam staring at him. Chuck and Gabriel seem to constantly have a side conversation that nobody else understands. And Gabriel is not missing a chance to up the game of the event. Especially where the cosplays are concerned.

summary: A standard salt and burn turns into a much larger problem when the Winchesters return to their motel to find that Castiel is missing. The only clues to his whereabouts are the destroyed room and a dead djinn.
Sam and Dean quickly find themselves in the middle of a djinn civil war where Castiel is being held by one faction as a bargaining chip to gain control of the Garden of Eden. The Garden of Eden ruled over by the Queen of the Djinn. Who happens to be Castiel’s wife.
Dean is unimpressed. Even more so when Sam decides the easiest way to find Cas is to work with the djinn queen and her followers. For Sam, it’s an opportunity to learn more about djinn and it doesn’t hurt that the queen is personable and open. For Dean, it's all of his worst nightmares come true when he discovers that Cas apparently has the kind of relationship Dean had always dreamed for them...with someone else. With a monster no less.
As the case progresses, Dean realises how little he really knows Castiel. When the case is over, Dean knows that he’s going to have to say goodbye to Cas and let him go home to his wife. At least until he finds that Sam and the queen are getting close and it transpires that Cas’ marriage to the queen might not be the grand love story that Dean had imagined.

Sam's mostly healed, Cas is adjusting to being human, and Dean's busy mother-henning the two (with the occasional reluctant cameo of Kevin and Crowley). Since everyone's using the downtime post closing the gates to either relax or bounce back, Sam decides to be productive and do a little exploring and finds an artifact and records storeroom and then ropes Cas and Dean into helping him go through the items. Someone ends up accidentally touching a cursed object, truths unexpectedly start coming out, and emotions reluctantly with them.

summary: Sam is intent on getting Jack his soul back. His mind is consumed with making this a reality, so Jack would be whole again. Due to this, Sam has the weirdest dream where he must decide how much he is willing to sacrifice to restore Jack’s soul. In the dream, Dean and Cas give Sam ways to fix Jack's lack of soul problem. But Sam is uncomfortable with the ideas given. After encounters with Lucifer and a darker version of himself, a horrified Sam falters in his desire to get Jack a soul. His Mom (the younger version of her that Sam met when he, Dean and Cas time travelled to the '70s) comes to calm him down. With his Mom's help and Rowena's advice, Sam awakens from his dream with hope that they'll succeed in helping Jack.
Note: Story follows Jack’s return in 15x11 “The Gamblers” but before 15x12 “Galaxy Brain.” Last scene occurs after 15x13 "Destiny's Child."
