Data Storage Verification
Storage Providers must submit proofs that they are continuing to store unique copies of client data in order to receive payment and rewards
Proof of Replication (PoRep)
Based on Sealing, a sequential operation to generate encoding of the data for each miner, a unique replica.
Proof of Spacetime (PoSt)
Randomly selected miners have random sectors challenged, for which data is read for verifications and compressed into a PoSt proof

Sponsored Research Opportunity:
Decentralized Data Storage for Research Universities and Institutions
Seal collaborates with innovators that have a deep connection with their data, where its integrity and safekeeping are essential.
To evaluate our new decentralized data storage platform, Seal sponsors projects for the decentralized storage of large data sets (~petabytes).

Immutability | Data integrity continually verified | Blockchain-based chain of custody
Seal Storage Technology is currently underway with an active project for University of Utah
The consensus mechanisms of the network enable three attractive attributes for data: immutability, verifiability, chain of custody.
Cryptographic hashes of the data sets are stored on-chain while the data is stored off-chain in enterprise-grade data centers powered by renewable energy.

Benefits of Seal Storage for UC Berkeley:
Immutability
Neutrino rare event search – every file is valuable
Geographic Decentralization
Berkeley has global collaborators
Verifiability
Source of truth - knowing research data is not corrupted
Affordability
Allows research data to grow without constraints
Centralized vs. Decentralized Cloud Storage
Existing centralized cloud storage platforms extract the majority of revenue from the customer’s access to the data, aka egress fees.
Filecoin, on the other hand, places value in the data set itself and its continual storage.
Seal has invested millions of dollars to create a user-friendly onramp to the Filecoin Network where the initial storage and continual verification produce block rewards that fund our data centers and enable Seal to provide resources for sponsored projects.

Benefits
Sponsored Project Benefits to Collaborators
Seal provides sponsored petabyte-scale storage for two years to prove out the value propositions of our decentralized platform.
The decentralized storage ecosystem is young and innovators are integral to the development of various data use cases. Interested Organizations determine the scope based on their unique use case and Seal would fund and lead the development as part of the sponsored project.
The three data attributes [immutability, verifiability, chain of custody] integrate with a trustless network where data authenticity is paramount and global distribution is required. All data centers, hardware and management are enterprise-grade and our standard data storage plan is six full copies across at least six cities, three countries and two continents.
