Statement of Opportunity

• Continuing education is required for mental health professionals to maintain licensure in Florida and to support life-long learning

• Counseling centers often support their providers growth and license by arranging for continuing education opportunities

​

• Clinicians at Florida’s colleges and universities have wide-ranging expertise and the ability to tailor continuing education presentations to focus on
• College student populations and collegiate mental health service provision
• Interventions and modalities useful in short-term outpatient settings
• Additional counseling center activities such as outreach, consultation, & supervision

Simple Concept

• Let’s combine our resources and invite each other to CE presentations sponsored by each other: a network of college and university counseling centers across Florida

​

• These can be presentations that staff members from our centers put on or ones that our centers arrange for staff members with external presenters

​

• We provide these to each other for free, taking our investment of one CE and turning it into multiple CE opportunities across the year

Membership Requirements

​

• Be a college or university counseling center in Florida
• Provide a virtual CE presentation (minimum 1.5 hrs) that is open to staff from other exchange members at least once per year
• CE presentations must provide CE credits to social workers, mental health counselors, marriage & family therapists, and psychologists. Option to partner with counseling centers that are approved CE sponsors
• CE presentations are focused on college student populations, applicable to short-term outpatient settings, and are culturally responsive
• Presentations are offered to clinicians at other network counseling centers at no cost

Role of CE Organizers

• Identify one member of a counseling center as the point person  for the exchange network, this may be a coordinator, a training director, a director, or other staff member in charge of continuing education at the center

• Work with CE presenters to ensure CE presentations are relevant, based on research, and have clear objectives

​

• Collaborate with center leadership on possible internal incentive staff willing to present a CE to the network
