What is a Title I School?

Title I is a federal program that provides supplemental funding to local school districts to help ensure that all children, particularly the most academically at-risk students, meet the state’s high academic standards.

The Title I Program Overview

Our school has been identified as a Title I School. Schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families are provided financial assistance through Title I to support school efforts tied to challenging state academic standards to reinforce and enhance efforts to improve teaching and learning for students.

Title I programs are based on effective means of improving student academic achievement and include strategies to support parent and family engagement. Funds are allocated to additional staff, instructional supplies, Instructional equipment, technology, and extended student learning opportunities.

Title I funds will be prioritized to support student academic achievement through high-quality instruction, targeted interventions, educational technology, professional learning for staff, family engagement activities, and resources aligned with the school's improvement goals. All expenditures will be focused on increasing student achievement and providing equitable access to a high-quality education.

Title I funds help our school provide extra academic support and resources for students. These funds may be used for instructional programs, classroom technology, learning materials, teacher training, student interventions, and family engagement activities. The goal is to improve student achievement and ensure every child has access to a high-quality education. Parents and stakeholders have opportunities to provide input on how Title I funds are used throughout the school year.

Support for Parent and Family Engagement McNair Middle School recognizes parents as important partners in student success. McNair Middle School utilizes Title I funds to support academic intervention programs, after-school tutorials, instructional technology, academic coaching, PBIS initiatives, and family engagement opportunities. These programs are designed to increase student achievement in ELA and Mathematics, improve school climate and culture, and strengthen partnerships between home and school.

Curriculum & Instruction

DeKalb County School District (DCSD) and McNair Middle School implement curriculum initiatives and instructional programs that are aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) to ensure all students receive rigorous, standards-based instruction. Instruction is guided by district curriculum frameworks, pacing guides, and assessment practices designed to support mastery of grade-level standards and improve student achievement.

Assessments

McNair Middle School uses a variety of assessments to monitor student achievement and growth throughout the year, including DCSD District Assessments, NWEA MAP Growth, Georgia Milestones, WIDA ACCESS for English Learners, and the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA). These assessments help measure student progress toward grade-level standards, identify areas for support, and inform instructional decisions. Students are expected to perform at the Proficient Learner level or higher on Georgia Milestones, indicating they are meeting grade-level expectations. Parents can access their child's grades, attendance, assessment results, and academic history through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal and the Statewide Longitudinal Data System (SLDS), which provides valuable information to support student success.

What is Parent and Family Engagement?

Parent engagement is an ongoing process that increases active participation, communication, and collaboration between parents, schools, and communities with the goal of educating the whole child to ensure student achievement and success. The Georgia Department of Education and DeKalb County School District ensures that Title I, Part A, Parent and Family Engagement Programs are met with meaningful and strategic actions to build parent capacity as mandated by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015.

Our school must ensure that strong strategies are in place to:

1. Build capacity to involve parents/stakeholders in an effective partnership.

2. Share and support high student academic achievement.

Professional Qualifications of Teachers

Parent’s Right to Know Letter

Under ESSA, parents have a right to request professional qualifications of their children’s teachers or paraprofessionals. The Parent Right to Know letter will be made available through various methods, including Infinite Campus, email, flyers, and the school website.
