BEFORE WE START

WHAT IS A KICKBOX?

The Kickbox was originally developed by Adobe. They used this approach to increase innovation, creativity, and community. It is made up of 3 types of boxes.

  • The RED BOX allows individuals to create solutions using understanding, developing points of view, and constructing new ideas.

  • The BLUE BOX seeks to experiment with the constructed new ideas. Collaborative teams are formed and they receive the help of a mentor as the prototypes continue to be developed.

  • The GOLD BOX connects to the final prototype that will be put into action by the collaborative development team.

BEFORE WE START: WHAT IS A KICKBOX?

What you’ll do for this slide:

  1. Read about the 3 different kickboxes

  • Create new folders in your ELA Google folder

Getting Organized

Access your Google ELA folder and rename your “Genius Hour” folder to “Kickbox.”

Any materials and documents moving forward will be kept in that space.

BEFORE WE START

BEFORE WE START: BRAINSTORMING & KNOWING YOUR WHY

As you open up your “Kickbox” folder in your ELA Google Folder, you will be using Google Jamboard to create a space to brainstorm project possibilities.

*You might remember using Jamboard with some of our other class participation exercises (see picture on the right)

For this part, complete the following:

  1. Open your “Kickbox” folder. Create a Google Jamboard by clicking on the “New” button to the left, hover over the “More” tab, and click “Google Jamboard.”

  • Use the Sticky Note tool, create a board that represents aspects of your protest art issue, why it matters to you, questions in your mind, and potential solutions. Need to see an example? Click here.

What you’ll do for this slide:

  • Create a Google Jamboard in your Kickbox folder

  • Use the Jamboard to brainstorm aspects of your issue, why this matters, and how you could create solutions

ASKING BETTER QUESTIONS

For this part, complete the following:

  • Open a new document in your Kickbox folder located in your ELA Google folder and title it “Red Box Developing Questions.” You can use this template to help create your document.

  • Go back to your created Jamboard and choose 3 issues/aspects that you would consider digging deeper into for this inquiry and the questions you have related to these ideas.

ASKING BETTER QUESTIONS

When we ask better questions, we have the ability to gain a stronger understanding when seeking the answers. With the help of your newly created Jamboard, let’s take time to explore the potentials of a few sticking ideas. As these key ideas stick out to you, what questions are forming as you think about them?
