Academic Rigor

  • Take a course load that is a reasonable and appropriate challenge
  • It’s important to challenge yourself, but consider your overall workload:
    • How long does homework take you to complete?
    • Are you an athlete?
    • Spend time working, volunteering, or pursuing other extracurricular activities?

17 of 27

AP and Honors

  • Holistic review: academic profile, extracurricular involvement, standardized test scores, essays, recommendations, and more

  • Admissions look for students who have pursued their interests and passions. Taking advanced classes related to your interests is more meaningful than accumulating numerous AP and honors courses.

  • A strong academic record should be balanced with involvement in extracurricular activities, leadership roles, community service, and other aspects of a well-rounded life.

  • Admissions officers look for students with a genuine interest in and love for learning

We have a new time management tool to help you plan your day. It shows you the time commitment for a 6 vs a 7 period day.

The tool allows for you to fill in the all aspects of your life. From the time you wake up to the time you go to sleep.

On the right hand side you will see the suggested amount of time for a CP and an H/AP course.

When filling this document out please be sure to enter all of your commitments; club sports, volunteer hours, family commitments.

The purpose of this is to help you understand how you are spending you time and help you plan for the future when selecting your courses.

Notice that this person is also an early riser - waking up at 6:30 AM to get ready for school and spends 30 minutes getting to school.

What are some daily/weekly events that you need take into consideration when building your schedule?
