Thank you to Ranger John

& everyone at Gettysburg National Military Park

To Ranger John,

Thank you for taking the time to come and visit us. Even though the war was really bloody and murderous, it was really interesting. My favorite part was when you spoke about the Fantasy Land that was there before.

Thank you again,

Kaiyu

Thank you so much Ranger John for teaching us about the Civil War and the people of Gettysburg who got their homes turned into a battlefield. It was very saddening to hear about how many people died, and how many people got captured. It was also very interesting to learn about how the important history of the Civil War was very close to today, only a few hundred years ago. My favorite part was learning about the paths the soldiers took. Thank you so much for taking your time to teach us about Gettysburg and its history!

Yuna

Thank you to Ranger John

& everyone at Gettysburg National Military Park

To Ranger John & everyone at Gettysburg National Military Park,

Thank you so much for coming and teaching us about Gettysburg and the history as well as the battle and all the soldiers that were injured, went missing, or died. I thought it was interesting to see a map of where the two armies went and the leaders of the armies, I thought it was also really interesting to learn about the African Americans’ lives since they were free and how some of them were captured and sold into slavery and the damage that was done to their homes and how little money they go to repair their homes. I thought it was also very interesting to hear the meaning of the Gettysburg Address in your words. Thank you so much for coming Ranger John!

Day 17 (Sophia & Sam)

In the afternoon we went to the Japanese garden. There we sketched, talked, and looked around for about an hour. The garden had a stream which had some fish. When we finished, we did yoga at the UH P4C Office. In yoga, we worked more on our body, mind, and breathing. We also pulled cards with poses on them then did them. The yoga poses were lots of fun! The cards had harder poses and also easier ones.

In the morning, we started off by virtually traveling from florida to pennsylvania. There we met with Ranger John from Gettysburg National Military Park. He taught us about the Civil War battle of Gettysburg on July 1 – July 3 1863. After our visit, we explored the p4c question of “what is fear?”. It was a really thought provoking discussion, and it was interesting to learn about other people's fears and how they manage them.

1 hour and 5 minutes ago, our awesome group went to Gettysburg National Military Park to talk with Ranger John about the bloody battle and all the lives that were lost and the soldiers that were injured as well as the perspective of the black families and the damage that was done to their house and farms. The Gettysburg battle was very bloody and 50,000 casualties at the battle, Ranger John showed a map of where they went and how they came to Gettysburg. We also learned about what happened to the black families and their homes being damaged with big holes in the sides of the houses and bullets in the walls. We also learned that some of the African Americans were captured by the soldiers from the south and were sold into slavery.

Day 17 Scrapbook ~ Drew

Today we visited Ranger John at Gettysburg National Military Park. He talked to us about the very important battle that happened there. It was super interesting to learn about even if it was dark at points. It was also interesting to learn about the amusement park that used to be there before it was a National Military Park. I really enjoyed learning more about Gettysburg and the Civil war in general.

Today, we went to Gettysburg National Park and Ranger John taught us a lot about the civil war and the people who had their town, their home, used as a battlefield. It was saddening to hear about all the people who died and were captured, but I think it was a very important moment in our US history. I really enjoyed learning about the path both sides of the soldiers marched on.

In the afternoon, we went to the japanese garden, where some of us drew, and some of us looked for fish. Then we had yoga and it was very relaxing when we did the “corpse pose.”

Sam’s Daily Reflection

Today was the 17th day of our journey. We started off with a delicious breakfast of waffles. Then, we got on the road! We drove to Gettysburg National Military Park. There, we were joined with Ranger John who taught us all about the history of the park. It was really interesting to learn more about the Civil War Battle of Gettysburg and the way in which it sent ripples that would continue to shape our world into what it is today for a very long time. After our visit, we had a great p4c discussion about “What is fear?” It was a very fascinating conversation, and I truly appreciate getting to learn more about the wonderful people in our crew.

In the afternoon we ventured to the Japanese garden in East-West Center. It was a nice change of pace to get to just hangout; sketching, talking, and looking at the beauty nature around us. I loved watching all the fish swim past in the stream. After we were finished there, we made our way back to the p4c office to have our weekly yoga class with Aunty Naoko. It was a great day, and I can’t wait until tomorrow! Thanks to everyone who made this great day possible :)

Day 17 June 28th

Today we had a very interesting schedule. We got to visit with Ranger John from Gettysburg National Military Park. He told us about the Civil War that happened there and how it affected the families that lived there. War is a terrible thing, but it is important to learn lessons from it.

In the afternoon we hung out in the East-West Center Japanese Garden and ended with Yoga. It was interesting; after learning about the great stress of war, we did things that brought us peace.

Today we visited Gettysburg! Even though the war was bloody I loved learning about it! Also we played a p4c game and put Rob in the hot seat! It was really fun! We asked stupid questions like “Clam or Swiss chease what will win?” I hope we do it again just with another person on the hot seat.

Today we went to Pennsylvania and Gettysburg National Military Park. We learned about the war that happened there and the effects it caused to the civilization. It was very interesting in my own opinion. We also did some (virtual) traveling in the morning and ate yummy (virtual) breakfast. That is it.
