What is a SWEF Internship?

  • Supplemental WBL Experience Funding (SWEF) is a paid internship opportunity ($15.00/Hr) given by Bayside High School to seniors in the fall or spring term.
  • Students will learn how to step into the real work world while also gaining valuable skills needed for employment.
  • Students will be assigned to worksites either remotely or close to Bayside High School.

Requirements

  • Seniors who are legally allowed to work in the U.S.

  • Total of 100 hours of work
  • Expected to work 10 hours each week for 10 weeks
  • Fall Term: Early November-End of January
  • Spring Term: Early March-End of May

Q: Where was your worksite?

A: My worksite was a jewelry company called Rosanna Jewels.

A: It was a remote worksite, so I did everything from home and over Zoom with my supervisor.

Q: What are some of your responsibilities as an intern?

A: My responsibilities included handling the company’s social media, doing research on marketing tactics to promote my supervisor’s business, and helping create the website.

Q: What are the new skills you have acquired from your job?

A: I have gained technical skills by learning to use Shopify and improved my skills on Canva by designing business cards and jewelry care sheets.

Q: Would you recommend your job to future interns?

A: Yes, I would recommend my job. It was convenient because it was remote, and my supervisor gave me work based on what I was interested in pursuing in the future. I was also pushed to step out of my comfort zone.

Q: Was the schedule flexible for high school students?

A: The schedule was very flexible. I was able to choose my own hours and days. My supervisor was also accommodating.

Q: Did your job spark any new hobbies/interests that you want to continue pursuing?

A: The job showed me that I was interested in marketing and communications. I even decided to apply for that major in college.
