Summary of 2024 activities

Three seminars in two sessions on machine learning simulation

Machine learning in simulation in general in May

End-to-end fast simulation (i.e. generating physics objects directly from the event generation output) approaches in LHCb and CMS in June

Preparation of the ESPPU document, with a community meeting in November

Plans for 2025 - candidate topics for seminars

In no particular order

  • In two weeks there will be a review of the Celeritas and Adept projects (calorimeter shower simulation on GPUs) by Geant4. We are considering a session with presentations from Celeritas and Adept in April (i.e. a presentation of the status of the projects, benefiting from the work they did for the review), and a report from Geant4 about their assessment on an early Summer timescale.
  • Fluka.CERN progress, depending on status (probably after Summer)
  • Calorimeter Fast Simulation Challenge, summarize recently published final results (https://arxiv.org/abs/2410.21611)
  • Opticks-Geant4 integration for the ePIC RICH (probably after Summer)
  • Tools to build G4 geometry from CAD files MRADSIM (commercial tool with free version, developed with INFN) and/or Georgia Technical University (working on this topic for ATLAS detector since a few years)
  • Migration to HEPMC3 format (discuss also with Generator group)
  • Wire-Cell package (for LAr TPC)

Will contact candidate speakers to evaluate availability

Other topics might come up during the year
