Learning Commons - Adaptable space in your library
We took a tired old mini lab space and made it a wired, collaborative stand up space for our junior high students. The space has room for 12 students working together or alone. Each walk up space has jacks for power or data. The U-shaped unit in the photo has a screen for sharing and the matching unit opposite it has a small desktop smartboard. This "genius bar" area is a part of the larger library space adjacent to their collection of fiction and lounge area. It is also not far from the lab and the circulation desk - all within the library space.(We are a small K-8 public school)

Badges
One system of badges will create a seamless system of 6th-12th grade after-school learning pathways, while the other will encourage high quality programs by validating professional development opportunities for program providers. Each will reinforce and compliment the other. Badges that promote the highest quality programs will ensure that program providers are qualified to recommend and administer badges. Likewise, badges that encourage and validate learning along multi-year pathways will encourage providers to enhance their practice in order to facilitate badge-worthy pathways.
