Term 1
Week 11: Sentences + Finishing off
Continue from last week:
Monday: Whole class
Learners to choose a piece of writing on their blog.�Ask learners what a simple sentence is. Refer learners back to the presentation from earlier in the term. Learners to choose a simple sentence in this writing and highlight it YELLOW. �Ask learners to discuss with their neighbour what a compound sentence is. Learners to choose a simple sentence in their writing and highlight it GREEN.�NB: If learners cannot find any of these types of sentences in their writing, get them to add one and then highlight it.
Week 10: Fia Fia
Wednesday:�Links to refer to: Cultural shows and activities - tourism; Fia fia definition - explain that this is the best that I could find online about what a Fia fia is. �Padlet - see whole class up to have a discussion about what a Fia fia is.�Come back to the mat and share some of the ideas on the padlet. Get learners to look and share one idea they did not know or one idea that they think they could add to. �Talk through the WALT - sentence types - have learners explain how variety can be added to sentences.�Give learners 20 minutes of silent writing time.
Thursday/ Friday:�Learners to continue writing. Meet with small groups to focus in on sentence types, carrying on from week 5 (before camp).�Have learners highlight 1 simple sentence, 1 compound sentence, and 1 complex sentence.
Friday:�Goal: to have completed writing, had a friend proof read it and give you feedback, make any changes, have teacher check over it, and post on your blog. Remind learners to add the link to blog log.
Week 8-9: Animation Voice Over Writing
Wednesday (week 8): Set learners up for the task, getting them to discuss what is happening in their animation.�- Who are your characters?�- Where is it set?�- How does it show ‘respect’?�Make a copy and put it in your writing folder, ready for Thursday. Encourage learners to link back to their respect writing from week 3 for ideas/ vocabulary.
Thursday (week 8): Reliever in. Learners to continue writing their voice over.
Tuesday (week 9): Meet with small groups of learners (5 at a time) to monitor their writing, provide feedback on punctuation and grammar. Make suggestions to learners about the ‘personal voice’ coming through in their writing - is this going to sound correct when you read it out loud for your voice over? Learners to work on this alongside a rotation on their animations.
Wednesday (week 9): Begin today by drawing attention back to the original animation plan. Refer to the animation rubric. Go through the instructions of how to do a voice over on your animation - create a screencast to support learners with this. Learners to post their animation voice over writing onto their blogs along with a screenshot from their animation. Some learners will be ready to record - set up a booking sheet for the quiet room.
Thursday (week 9): Continue from above.
Week 7- Camp Reflection
Literacy Learning Progressions
Give learners a chance to have a discussion about camp - What was their favourite part? What did they find difficult/ challenging? What did they find funny? Give learners pieces of paper - write one for each of these:�- Favourite part or something funny�- Something challenging�- Something you learned�- Someone to thank�Stick these onto the word wall.��Introduce learners to the planning doc. Discuss how it is a recount but is a bit different where we will be writing a thank you at the end - this usually wouldn’t be in a recount.��Ensure interesting words are added to a word wall/ digital word bank for learners to access.
Send students off to write their introduction. Bring back - share some introductions.�Send students off to begin writing their body paragraphs.�Tuesday/ Wednesday - discuss the conclusion - what will this look like? What will be in this?

Week 5- Types of Sentences
WALT understand simple, compound, and complex sentences.
WALT edit our writing, ensuring we have a range of sentence types.
When learners come to see me, they will be finding a piece of writing which they have written this year. In their group, they will be identifying a simple sentence, a compound sentence, and a complex sentence.
Week 4- Untie the human knot (RECOUNT)
WALT: use a range of vocabulary in our writing.
WALT: edit our work, checking that we have a range of simple, compound, and/or complex sentences in our writing.�
Monday - Ako 3 (whole space) launch
Show students the task. Explain that they will be writing a RECOUNT. 20 minutes of silent writing for all of Ako 3 (Note: see how this goes). .
Wednesday - Friday - conference with students in regards to the above WALT. In whole space/ literacy class meetings, refer back to the WALT, the work banks around the space.
By the end of Thursday students should have completed writing and be conferencing with a classmate, editing.
Later this week, give R10 a sentence types presentation. Students to highlight a simple sentence, a compound sentence, a complex sentence in their writing.
Week 3-Narrative of Creek Walkway
WALT: use a range of vocabulary in our writing.
WALT: edit our work, checking that all our sentences make sense and that we have full stops and capital letters in the correct places.
Monday - Ako 3 (whole space) launch - Take a look at this picture. (put picture up). Turn to your neighbour and talk about it for 2 minutes.
After 2 min, ask students to share what their partner said (have others repeat what they heard and record on word bank)
Then, discuss the actual assignment set up prior to providing 30 minutes of silent writing for all of Ako 3.
Wednesday - Friday - conference with students in regards to the above WALT. In whole space/ literacy class meetings, refer back to the WALT, the work banks around the space.
By the end of Thursday students should have completed writing and be conferencing with a classmate, editing.
Later this week, give R10 a ‘fix the mistakes’ task - work in pairs to correct Miss West’s writing.
Week 2 - RESPECT
WALT: use a range of vocabulary in our writing.
WALT: edit our work, checking that all our sentences make sense and that we have full stops and capital letters in the correct places.
Monday - Ako 3 (whole space) launch - What does it mean to be respectful (think is the same question posed to students through their animation planner last Friday).
-What does it mean to be respectful?
-How can we show respect around school?
-How can we show our peers respect?
-How can we show our class respect?
-How can we show our school respect?
-How can we show our wider community respect?
Students to turn to neighbour and discuss vocabulary they could use to explain ‘RESPECT’ - add these to the word bank.
Model to students the structure of their writing (introduction, paragraph 1, paragraph 2 etc, conclusion (hamburger model).
Send students off - half an hour of writing. Set up timer on big screen.
Students to move to their literacy classes to begin reading.

Thursday - Students to work through a task to practice editing a piece of writing for correct sentences, full stops and capital letters.
Week 1 - About me
See how students manage themselves in completing a task.
Begin cybersmart - what is ok/ not ok to put onto the blog?
Start reminding to put into WRITING folder - do a check of this.
Monitor/ assess use of punctuation
Create direction for the rest of the term with writing.
Cybersmart (smart footprint) - What should I share? What shouldn’t I share? - in pairs/ groups of 3.
Come back as a group and share.
Create a blurb - model this with the students on the whiteboard.
Suggest learners share their profile with their parents to give them a chance to change it if they would like to.
Students to show teacher their blurb when ready.
Give students feedback - post on blog once approved.
Take photos of students for blog.
Week 1 continued...
Beginning of 2018 task for fast finishers.
Purpose of this task is to give students a chance to think about their learning, set goals, and demonstrate digital skills they already have in order to create using their chromebooks.
Students to do this task quite independently or collaboratively with their peers to gauge an idea of what the students can do, need more support with. While students are working on this, continue conferencing with students on ‘about me’ to aim to have this completed by the end of the week.
