Insurance Capture in Crush the Curve

Admin + Testing Staff Guide

2 of 12

  • Costs for COVID-19 tests are covered in one of two ways:
    1. The testing vendor, CIC Health (”CICH"), through its partners, bills participants' insurance
    2. CICH bills the Washington State Department of Health (DOH)

  • Per federal regulation, insurance providers must cover all molecular PCR COVID-19 tests.

  • The DOH fund covers tests for uninsured participants.

  • When insurance is billed, public funds can be stretched to serve more people.

  • Parents/caregivers sign-in to their Crush the Curve profile to register and/or add insurance information for themselves and their dependents (students)
    • See the Parent Caregiver Guide
  • Users without insurance should attest to having no insurance in their Crush the Curve member profile.
  • CICH labor support testing staff (onsite only) help parents/caregivers update their insurance information, submit attestation to having no insurance or bypass if neither is available. Bypass of insurance information requires no changes to member profile by test administrator.

Q: Insurance or attestation information has not been updated, the student needs a test, and the parent is unwilling or unable to provide insurance or attestation of no insurance. What should be done?

A: If a student needs a test but insurance information is not forthcoming, you can move forward by ordering test with no further changes. This is referred to as bypass and administrators and/or trained testing staff are the only individuals permitted to make this determination. Bypass requires no changes to member profile by test administrator.
