Be Yourself

This is an opportunity for staff and judges to meet you and learn more about your leadership and your organization. Let your passion for your work shine through.

Be Honest

Be honest about yourself and your organization. Staff and judges are looking to understand you and your work. If you are having trouble fundraising, or are still working through your operations plan, you can say that.

You are the Expert

You know more about your idea and community than the judges in the room, so trust yourself and the work you have done to get to this place.

Be Clear

Avoid overly technical language. Not everyone in the interviews will be issue area experts.

Share why You do this Work

Talk about why you do this work, and not just the work itself. Echoing Green invests in leaders, not organizations, so staff and judges want to hear about you as a person and a leader.

Logistics

As outlined in A Guide to Finalist Interviews, Finalists are invited to participate in two (2) Finalist Community Days, followed by your three (one staff, two judge panel) interviews of thirty (30) minutes on Zoom.

Before joining any of the virtual events, please ensure your Zoom set up is optimized:�

Test your Zoom capabilities ahead of each interview. Please close down any other applications that you are not using for the interview, which may use more bandwidth.
Consider a hardwire connection to your modern router. If that is not an option, consider moving closer to your internet router, or moving your modem router closer to you.
For all interviews, you are encouraged to edit your Zoom name using the following naming convention: First Name Last Name - Organization

Staff Panel Interviews

Finalists were sent a link on May 11 to select their Phase 1: Staff Interview time.
Finalists received a confirmation email with a meeting invitation and Zoom link. We strongly encourage you to add the date and time to your calendar.
Please review your confirmation email for the Zoom backup phone numbers in the event we experience technical difficulties.

Each Finalist will interview individually with a panel of Echoing Green Staff.

Registration (Required)

Dates: June 1 — June 5

Format: One thirty (30) minute Zoom video interview

Time windows: Five daily time slots: 8:30 AM, 10:00 AM, 11:30 AM, 2:00 PM, 3:30 PM (all times are EDT)

Please be five minutes early to your scheduled interview. For example, if your interview is at 8:30 AM, you should be ready by 8:25 AM.
Upon entering the Zoom meeting, you will see a note indicating that the meeting host will let you into the meeting.
Make sure your video and sound are both on once the meeting starts. During the interview, mute and unmute your mic if needed.
Be your authentic self.

The Day of Your Interview

If you have trouble logging into Zoom, you should notify the Events Team, who will be checking emails and on standby to notify the interviewers.
If you are not able to hear or experience technical issues during the call, you should be prepared to switch to a phone as a backup option after the first five minutes. Please dial-in your country's backup number as shared in your interview confirmation email.
If Zoom doesn’t provide a toll-free number for the country you are calling from, expect a call on the cell phone number you provided to the Echoing Green team to join the interview.
If the phone option doesn’t work, the interviewers will call you via WhatsApp as a last resort before we reschedule your interview for an alternative date and time if need be.

Judge Panel Interviews

Prior to judge interviews, the Echoing Green team will send out meeting invitations, which will include 1) your two time slots 2) a Zoom link and 3) a telephone number to each Finalist. The phone number is only a backup in case there is a video issue.
Similarly to your staff interview, you are encouraged to test your equipment ahead of time and be ready five minutes prior to your interview.
Upon entering the Zoom meeting, you will see a note indicating that the meeting host will let you into the meeting.
An Echoing Green coordinator will greet you and direct you (and your partner if you are applying as a team) to your virtual meeting room where a team of expert judges and Echoing Green staff will conduct your interview.
If you are facing technical difficulties, dial-in the number provided in your invitation email. If for any reason this doesn't work, we will reach out to you to reschedule your interview at a later date and time.

Each Finalist will have two thirty (30) minute interviews with two distinct panels of judges. Partners will interview together in this phase. Both interviews will take place on the same day.

After Finalist Interviews: What to Expect

Echoing Green staff will notify Finalists of their status in the weeks following the conclusion of Finalist Interviews.

If selected as a 2020 Fellow, you will be notified via telephone and will have a few hours to accept or decline the Echoing Green Fellowship. If you accept, Echoing Green staff will send your official Fellowship Agreement and tax forms.

Your signed Fellowship Agreement and necessary paperwork will be due back to Echoing Green staff within a timeframe provided to you (approximately a week).

New Fellows will then begin to hear from the Individual Fellow Support team.
