Quotations need to be embedded and cited. Intro-duce the quotation using the following “formula”:
Your words + the quote = a complete sentence (author page #).
This is supported by Mahan who states that “change is imperative” (Smith 34).
When introducing quotations, avoid using “says” all of the time. Here are some alternatives:
Whenever you use outside information in your writing, whether it be a direct quotation or paraphrased information, you must cite the source in a parenthetical citation. The purpose of these citations is to direct the reader to the correct source on the works cited page, so the word inside the citation must correspond to the first word of the source on the works cited page.
