School Nurse and Nurse’s Aid
Nurse Jen and Nurse Selena
Clinic Phone Number: 281-234-1626
A Note From the Nurse:
As the school nurse, I will provide a temporary care facility for children who become ill or injured at school. Although we will not call parents for every visit made to the clinic, there may be times I will need to contact you. In order for this to be possible, please keep your phone numbers and records up to date. If your child has a major medical problem, please stop by or give me a call to make sure I am aware of it.
IMMUNIZATIONS: Refer to the ‘TX Minimum State Vaccine Requirements for Students’ posted on the katyisd.org website. Students must be compliant with their immunizations in order to start the school year or have a current state-issued affidavit for ‘Reasons of Conscience’ on file. Please call me with questions.
Emergency Contact Information
Please be sure that your student's emergency contacts and parent phone numbers are accurate and up to date. These are very important should I need to contact you. Emergency contact should be local family or friends that you trust and can be available to pick your student up from school if a parent is not available. If your student is being sent home from the clinic, they will need to be picked up within 20 minutes once you are notified. Please also ensure that you come with your ID.
24 Hour Rule
If your child has fever, vomiting or diarrhea, Katy ISD guidelines state that he or she must stay home for 24 hours. To give your child time to recuperate and to protect classmates and teachers, the child must be symptom-free without the aid of medications for a day (24hours) before returning to school.
*Please note for attendance purposes that you must call on the day of absence or report the absence online (https://www.katyisd.org/TWE) in order for the absence to be excused.
Illness Information
FEVER:
Students with an oral temperature of 100.0 or greater should be kept at home. If your child is not feeling his/her best and is without fever, he/she may come to school at the parent’s discretion.
INFECTIOUS DISEASES
Please call me if your child has been diagnosed with a contagious condition such as strep throat, chickenpox, pink eye, lice, impetigo, flu, or has vomiting and/or diarrhea.
Medication
MEDICINE
Children may not carry medicine with them at school - not even cough drops. If your child needs medicine at school, send a medication form completed by a parent or the physician plus the medicine in the original container. You or your child can drop it off in the clinic before going to class.
The official medication form can be found at the Katy ISD website: www.katyisd.org/TWE ; go to the Quick links drop down box, then Clinic page for the forms.
Clothing
Please pack an extra set of clothing!
*Underwear
*Shirt
*Shorts/Pants
*Socks
Place in a plastic bag in their backpack.
It’s comforting to have your own clothes in case of an accident.
Kids can spill milk, get into mud, rip their shorts, or have an accident.
Hearing and Vision
Kindergarteners are screened annually in the fall for vision and hearing.
If your child has been or will be screened during the school year, and you do not wish them to be screened at school, please contact the nurse.
Parents may also request screening if they have concerns about their child's vision or hearing.
Parents will be sent a referral by the campus nurse if their child has not passed.
NO NEWS is GOOD NEWS!
Birthday Information
Per district policy, birthday treats are not allowed at school.
Here are ways we make your child’s special day memorable:
Counselor: Samantha Sloan
I am incredibly passionate about the social, emotional, and behavioral success of our students. The key to success is building relationships with students, families, and staff. I hope to support all students with all their needs and provide a safe and comforting place for them to go should an issue or concern arise. I look forward to getting to know each and everyone of you more!
To schedule a conference, it is best to make an appointment by email or phone.
