Recent Updates

Contributed papers progress:

  • Following AF6 LOI workshop, Interest groups were formed to organize LOIs into broader themes and collaborations with expectations that each group contributes one paper to Snowmass Proceedings.
  • Details (title, description, point of contact) in AF6 area of Snowmass2021 website
  • Each group has been invited to update on status and plans during AF6 Friday morning meetings
  • Useful discussions to provide feedback and clarifications
  • Aiming at first draft by end of January, review in February, and submission by March 15th deadline

AF6: Contributed Papers Contact & Outreach

Please contact POC’s to join a white paper

POCs/groups should reach out to community for contributions

  • Include European and international colleagues
  • Reach out to other AF groups, for example
    • AF1 (and AF3?) final focus designers for BDS;
    • AF 1 site filler group & ILC groups for future AF6 extension of facility reach
    • AF4 multi-TeV collider designs (M. Turner EC rep.)
    • AF7 polarized positrons
  • Reach out to Theory/Energy frontier on signatures
  • Community engagement frontier on near term applications (CF1- Liaison J. van Tilborg), DEI (CF2,3), environmental impact (efficiency)(CF7)
  • Computational on simulations: Liaison - J.-L. Vay

Please introduce new white paper topics at this meeting

At a high level, the Accelerator Frontier will address the overall questions:

  • What is needed to advance the physics of accelerators for High Energy Physics?
    • AF6: Enable new capabilities
  • What is currently available (state of the art) around the world?
    • AF6: Progress in techniques, collider concepts and path
  • What new accelerator facilities could be available on the next decade (or next next decade)?
    • AF6: Test facilities, with coordinated plan to impact collider path
    • AF6: Intermediate applications and how they contribute to HEP goals

We encourage reference to recent reports on advanced accelerator and supporting technology development including the 2016 Advanced Accelerator Development Strategy Report and others. For example, how will we address such roadmaps, move to the next more detailed level of planning, bring new techniques not yet considered to bear, or address other machines? A collection of recent reports is available at:

A suggested outline follows.

  • Executive Summary
  • Intro/background
  • Proposed concept
  • Development path
  • Synergies and Conclusion

Contributed paper

template / format

Each whitepaper team can adapt or add topics that they view as relevant to their proposal.

If a paper is being submitted across groups it may be most appropriate for it to follow another group’s template (for example the paper to AF4)

Looking at the previous Snowmass/P5 exerciseLOI Coordination and alignment with previous efforts

  • Roadmaps outline expected progress in the next decade (in broad themes and more specific detail) - similar roadmaps for PWFA, LWFA, structures
  • Extend where appropriate - e.g. to many TeV as requested by EF
  • Beneficial if LOIs (and Contributed Papers) align to roadmaps and guidance from EF community about latest thinking (e.g. a few TeV vs. Higgs factory + 10TeV)
