About Mrs. Hill…

This is my 17th year of teaching math in PVSD. Math is my thing! I earned my BS in Mathematics with an emphasis in Education from CSUCI in 2009 and my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from CLU in 2021. I look forward to supporting your child in reaching their goals this year.

We are so pleased to welcome you to the 2026-2027 school year! We are looking forward to having your child in our class. Math 7 covers the math standards for 7^th grade and prepares them for Math 8 in 8^th grade.

Your child will be involved in many different learning activities this year. YOU are important to your child’s success. We urge you to show your interest by asking your child about the school day and by making sure assigned homework is completed and returned to school. It is important that you check your child’s agenda book each evening. Please keep an eye out for any reminders, notes, newsletters, and school-wide information.

This year we are lucky to be piloting new math curriculum. This means your child will be using at least two different textbooks to drive their learning throughout the year. We will be starting in the Fall with Amplify Math, then will switch to another curriculum around winter break. We will communicate about the next curriculum as we get closer to the switch. All students still have access to the current PVSD adopted math curriculum, Big Ideas Math, through Classlink.

• Correcting Pen (any color)

• Math workbook (this will be handed out in class)

1. Respect all people and property.

4. No eating or drinking in the classroom.

About Mrs. Rydberg…

I have 30+ years in PVSD. As the Specialized Academic Instructor (SAI), my goal is to support all students with their learning needs. I hold a BA in Liberal Studies, an MA in Education with an emphasis in Special Education, and an Educational Leadership credential. I am excited help our students grow their under-standing & love for math.

HOMEWORK POLICY

Homework is reflective of what we do in the classroom. Homework will be assigned most days, including some Fridays, and will be posted on my website and on Google Classroom. Expect about 20 minutes of math practice per night, and one page of homework will be checked for completion each week. Parents should check their child’s homework and agenda book daily. If your child is unable to complete their homework, please communicate with the teachers so we can form a plan to best support them.

ABSENCES

Good attendance is essential for learning. Of course, if your child is sick, please keep them home! If your child needs to be absent but they are well enough to complete schoolwork, please have them check Mrs. Hill’s teacher page and Google Classroom for their assignments. We will keep paper copies of anything they need which they may pick up upon their return.

GRADING POLICY

Students will earn numerical and letter grades using the following weights:

50% Assessments (Tests and Quizzes)

Quiz corrections and test retakes will be offered for most assessments.

40% Classwork

Some assignments are completion grades, while others are graded for accuracy.

10% Homework

It is easy to get behind if students do not keep up with their homework. Late

homework will not be accepted for credit. Homework is graded for completion.

MATH INSTRUCTION

We will learn in a variety of ways in this class! Sometimes we will learn and take notes as a whole group, and other times the teachers will be working with small groups targeting specific skills. Additionally, some skills may be learned through practice and problem solving. We firmly believe that the teacher is not the holder of all knowledge, and students are capable of figuring some things out using the skills they already have. When you’re supporting your child at home, you are welcome to show your child another way of solving problems. We encourage students to use a variety of mathematically valid strategies as long as they can show their thinking.
