• The 2021 EU census programme is an evolution of 2011
• Simplified, where possible
• Avoids optional categories in classifications
• Removes cross-tabulations and/or dimensions that were little used in 2011
• Focuses on the priority needs of census statistics users
• Preserves the uniqueness of the census as a source of multi-dimensional data
• allowing analyses across different themes and topics that are not possible using other data collections
